MP4 Format
« on: January 05, 2006, 05:55:28 PM »
I rendered a small video with Vegas to both WMV and MP4 formats. Image quality was pretty much the same, but audio quality was slightly better in MP4...and the file size? Well, 24mb for WMV <_< and 9mb for MP4. :o

MP4 seem to give such a smaller file size, but it can't be that awesome can it, otherwise everyone would be using it. So what are the disadvantages of this format that I'm missing?

WMV is definitely not the best codec whatsoever, I don't know why everyone is using it. MPEG4 and DivX/XviD are better in my opinion. You will need quicktime to be able to watch Mpeg4 and mplayer or VLC to watch AVI's without a lot of errors.

Xvid has been the best imo for awhile, but some of the new mp4 codecs that are up and coming are sweet but you need to read a novel to work out how to use them
