I don't see any difference rendering outside of vegas, it's just more hassle to do.

Sorry to bring up this, but when I use the XviD codec to compress a stunt in Virtualdub, I couldn't open it in Vegas. I used some other codecs and it worked...

You can't open clips rendered in XVid in Vegas, that's just how it is.
But you shouldn't compress the clips you're making a vid with.

yeah, try to compress as little as possible, and then render when you're done. Buy more memory if it's a HD space problem.

if you feed the clips you render with enough bitrate they get small and lose almost no quality.

Do you render crappily first with Vegas, then re-render with the XVid/DivX?

You gotta render the vid with a lossless codec and then render it again with Virtual Dub.
