VIDEO CAPTURING SOFTWARE
« on: January 19, 2021, 07:04:45 AM »
Hello everyone stunting people  :cc_detective:

I am opening this thread because I would like to be updated about videogames capturing software for PC. I am wondering if FRAPS is still the best tool around or meanwhile have taken over better tools for the same purpouse.

Thank you in advance to those who will shed some light on the matter!

cheers

Depends on what you want to achieve, for everyday stuff Shadowplay is very nice

I think I've explained it in the description of Casino MMXXI on YouTube but I'll say it again and this is based on my experience: nowadays there are shadowplay or OBS people and I personally prefer Fraps because I think it's a good recording software, only the bad thing is that the recordings are big and bulky so I sometimes use OBS for recording some videos. I actually remember using OBS when recording clips for that video. But if you want your storage space to suffer go for Fraps, no problemo seƱor. Just used that on the latest Uoosilver video, then deleted all the clips for more storage space, ? ? ? ? ? ? ?, profit.

OBS is what I use for general clips recording, but for proper HQ editing you should use Fraps.

Also, welcome back. Got the itch again like many others this past year? :)

Hi again gentlemen,

thank you for the replies.

I am finding quite useful Shadowplay. I will consider to get OBS maybe for some better project. Btw fraps: I bought the key on the website and I was still waiting for it and now I asked paypal for a refund... they such scam artists or dead!

I am not really back guys, I enjoy watching nice vids as always on YT and here. However since I have a bit of free time I am recording some clips on Cyberpunk2077, not that great stunting game but at least the roofs are solid...   :cc_detective:

There's already a cracked version of Fraps in case you didn't know this...I think the devs probably aren't working with a new version since they dropped the latest version feelsbadman

I used to use FRAPS too, but it felt a bit outdated lately. I switched to OBS Studio and it's been a game changer, literally. Super easy to set up for game capture and streaming. Plus, it's free, which is always a bonus.

I’ve also tried Nvidia’s ShadowPlay since my PC has an Nvidia card. It's pretty slick for recording without slowing down my game.

And about editing, since I’m on a Mac, finding the right video editing software for mac took some trial and error. There's quite a few out there that are user-friendly and don’t require you to be a pro editor. Makes polishing up my game captures a whole lot easier.

Honestly there's a LOT of software that you can use to record

the most simplistic and easiest (to access and achieve semi-great quality) (you can also just record with these, without having the live replay on too)
Geforce Shadowplay (the replay system so you don't have to record for 100's of gigs)
AMD Live Replay (same as ShadowPlay replay system, It's decent and what I've used for years)
These 2 are always a must to be enabled for me, since you might not be recording when a cool stunt happens, so Replay systems are great for live stunting (samp, vcmp, other games ect.) (also good for quick grab of cinematics, hop in game, fly around, replay, no difficult hastle or setups to get it so it's very useful)

(the proper recording programs)
As for recording systems, I'd say OBS, the quality you get from OBS is very great, not to mention that you can Remux an obs video (let's say you've recorded on max obs quality which gave you an .avi, well you can remux it through obs to get mp4, while not losing the quality (useful if your Vegas or any other editing software cannot accept .avi files)

Fraps are still great from what I know, but personally I haven't used it for years now

DxTory, I've used it before, and personally really love dxtory to this day (ofc you gotta crack it), the ability to see both in-game fps and the  video file-write fps (if the video is lagging while you're recording) is very useful
But the only downside of DxTory you have to use lossless codec, which EATS space, When I say eats, the video goes in GB even if its 1 minute or under.

the conclude use anything that you're comfortable with, program that does not strain your pc, and the one that gives you greatest quality, I personally recommend OBS with decent settings, which you can find on the net or ask other fellow stunters.
