New PC (Need opinions)
« on: February 01, 2013, 11:16:09 AM »
Before I start, I'm a hardcore AMD fan and I don't accept anything but AMD so no Intel vs AMD vs nVidia crap :euro:

I already have pretty gud 2x 2gb 1333mhz DDR3 Corsair ram and also a good amount of HDD.

Keep in mind that this is restricted by a price range I set.

Processor: AMD FX-8150 3.6GHz Eight Core 16MB Processor AM3+
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 Socket AM3+
Graphics card: SAPPHIRE HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR5 (I currently have the older 5770 and I'm a huge fan of that card it still holds to this day with most games)
Case + Powersupply: Cooler Master K380 Mid Tower with 500W Powersupply

All of this would cost around 485usd in my country.

Save money to get a HD 7970, it is pretty good and the rest is good. Have you already bought those components?

Basium a single 7970 is already above what he wants to spend in total. Going with an AMD GPU is a good choice currently though. I'm not too much into their series so I can't judge the 7770's performance as I didn't see benchmarks 'n all that, but the prices seem good. The FX series aren't really good at all, even though the 8350 has a good price/performance ratio, but I myself would go with an i5 however. They have a lot lower power consumption.

You generally won't get too much with that budget. I'd wait until Nvidia gets their 7XX series out and see how the all GPU prices evolve. That'd also give a little more space for sparing a little more for higher components. CM cases are just fine, got one myself and your 4 GB RAM also will be okay. I don't get the fuss about getting unnecessarily much RAM even though it's getting quite cheap recently.

E: Just seen the MB you listed has just PCIe 2.0 slots, get one with 3.0 to make a little more use of the GPU and to be a little more future-proof.

Get a 8350, it's totally worth it ;) I actually bought it. @Rusch, the i5 is a lot worse than the 8350 gaming/3d wise. The 8350 is even better than the new 3820. Totally worth it to be honest. For the card, take a IceQ by HIS. Totally worth it too.

The sapphire has a huuuuge noise. I don't think you'll like it  :neen:

The i5 3570K still beats the FX8350 when it comes to gaming, needs A LOT less power, but costs a little more. The AMD one does better on applications which support 8 cores, but that's really not too many yet. The only downside the i5 brings is that it hasn't hyper-threading and a little less cache unlike it's i7/Xeon brothers. The non-K version of the i5 (3570) would also do fine if you don't plan to overclock and it's just 10€ more than the FX8350. That'd pay off if you intentionally build it for mostly gaming. It still depends on the needs after all, but I guess Beat will really stick to AMD so the FX8350 is probably the best choice for him.

With all the editing you do, you should really get some more RAM. 8GB minimum, but 16GB would make your experience much smoother.
