Tried this game yesterday. The gameplay is fun though the controls are a tad hard to get used to and the graphics are pretty fucking amazing. I'd say even better than BF3.What I love most so far is Muse's song(s) playing in the radio and imagining you're driving in a really dramatic way. And I love it when you're racing against someone and the screen movements are so.. lively. It's hard to express it in words but it's still a very fun game. Just too bad they cut out every bit of progress that was in the original game and just gave you a smaller blacklist, but goddamn those blacklist races are difficult. I still need to get past #10 and I keep getting popped tires sooner or later.
I really don't know what to think of this game...The graphics looks amazing for a NFS game, but it looks like too much of an arcade game. I have just got Forza Horizon and for the first time Forza has won me over + you can actually customise your cars more than this game (what has the world come to!). Also what is with the ground looking constantly wet? I don't understand it.I've been stuck deciding whether to get this for Christmas or not for a long time now but I think I might actually pass.
Well, the thing about MW is that, for one, it's a really pretty game, it has nice lighting, realtime shadows, sweet speed effects, an incredibly well designed & huge map with nice city, hillside & country scenes & all that good stuff. But I'm not so sure if it's worth the money, especially if we look at single player alone. The game gets very repetitive very soon, the main gimmick is that you can unlock all these cars by finding them at random spots & for each vehicle you unlock upgrades by beating races. The problem here is that the races are the same for a lot of vehicles, so you'll be doing the same race with 10 different cars just to unlock nitrous. There are only 4 race modes afaik (I've beaten 40%, so maybe there's more, but I really doubt it), you have your sprint, your circuit, your ambush, where you try to evade the cops under a certain timelimit & then you have a new thing called a speed race (I think), where you have to maintain a certain average speed throughout the race to win. So there's really not a lot of different stuff you can do. Another let down is that the freeroam doesn't have any interactive constructions (other than gas tanks, but you only use them to repair & respray your car), none of the good ol' techniques to evade the cops by blowing up gas tanks or ramming a truck full of logs. That takes me to my next point, the cops. Cop chases can be entertaining for a while, but if you decide you've had enough, you better have at least another hour to spare just evading them, it is damn near impossible to escape them, there are no cooldown areas or interactive constructions, the cops are always twice as fast as you are &, not to mention, at least 10 times as many. Even if by luck you do magically escape them, it takes at least 5 minutes for the meter to go all the way down & these cops lurk everywhere to find you, so you have to be really sneaky & really lucky. So now you're thinking "Oh, so I just go through a gas tank & respray my vehicle, right?" Well, in a way yes, but bear in mind that the gas tanks are in very open & vulnerable areas, so it's very unlikely to get there without being spotted. And even if you do manage, it only takes away 1 level of your heat, so if you're at max heat level 6, it means you have to drive through a gas tank 6 times without getting spotted by the cops, tedious as hell. Not to mention, the roadblocks are a pain in the ass, if you go full speed into a road block, you are almost guaranteed to crash into it, no no, not through it, like the old MW (which was by far the most satisfying thing, when you go into that sweet little animation of you destroying a roadblack), instead it puts you in an animation where you crash in the roadblock & it says "taken down", so you have a couple seconds afterwards to escape. Which brings me to the animations... WHY? Who the fuck asked for a fucking interruption everytime you hit a solid object or a vehicle, or even a cop, it is annoying as hell. I swear to god, I've had those animations pop up when I hit a stopped car going 50 mph, it's pretty much the most asshole way of saying "hey, you fucked up!" They really need to stop with that nonsense, it feels like the fucking day & night shift from Castlevania 2, purely unneeded & obnoxious. The one good thing apart from it's looks that I can think of is the handling, it's a nice mix of Hot Pursuit's arcade-y controls & The Run's realistic handling, it is very smooth, gives you a nice sense of control, at the same time, it does involve some degree of skill, so it actually feels rewarding when you pull off some sweet turns & dodges.I'd say pass, it is still an entertaining game, but nothing I'd play consistently, get it if you want something that you can sit down & play for like an hour a week or so, it gets old really quickly.
uninstalled it after 10 minutes, I didn't want a Burnout, I wanted a playable NFS after 6 years (yes, the last good NFS was Carbon, that's right)great graphics, great soundtrack, sucky game. thanks for ruining the MW series, Criterion.
You guys do realize that customization is not part of the original NFS. It was only a gimmick started in UG.
