Yeah, the older versions are much more comfortable & handy to use, even the plugins are better, I fucking hate 64x MB suite, way too unwieldy to work with. Only thing that 10/11 have are some new plug-ins that look good, other than that it's smooth sailing downhill after 8.

Pretty much Vegas 8 Pro is the perfect choice like XTO said.

If he want edit in AAE it's his choice. In my opinion it's good to experimental.

They were arguing about which version of vegas is the best, not whether to use Vegas or AAE.
Pay a little more attention, friend.

Also you can't really "edit" in AAE because its a compositing software, I mean it's possible but it'd be plain stupid and time-wasting since even the layout is VERY restricted to a compositing-friendly style and not even slightly editing-friendly at all. Also barely any sound design tools..

Long story made short, you edit video/audio in an non-linear editing software like Vegas, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Premiere and so on, you make complex effects and visuals in a compositing software like After Effects or HitFilm. You combine both kinds of software for a the best result, maybe add in a tracking software and a 3D modelling software and its the perfect setup for making videos/films.
