I tested each feature as I was developing them, to make sure they worked... however, that was back on my old 32bit XP machine (and that is indeed the machine all the Freeplay releases were compiled on).
I am not sure if its (my current machine's) 64bit, Windows 7, some combination of the two, or that I somehow missed a blindingly-obvious bug when coding, but I admit I have experienced the same freeze-cam crash problems. I'm sorry I haven't looked into it, and I also do not currently have the ability to change and recompile the program if I could fix it. From the little I did experience, some functions still did function perfectly, but certainly at-the-least that freeze-cam one didn't.
Sorry I couldn't be of more use. Feel free to share if you have these problems - perhaps we could narrow down exactly which functions are causing problems, and even see if there is a common denominator in regards to operating systems and the like.
