Machinima
« on: April 28, 2012, 08:32:17 AM »
Hey guys! I sent an email off to machinima respawn about 2 months ago, and have just got a reply back saying they are interested but looking for proof of longevity with our channel. To show them this i'll need to create a new stunt montage pretty soon, i've told them by the end of May which is enough time to get clips and edit it out, but i'm not exactly the best stuner in the world. The montage has to be on GTA IV so if there's anyone who would like to feature in the video i'd love it if you could contact me and we'll talk about what's needed. I know this sounds like a beg for clips using machinima as an excuse, but fuck me i'll send you all the proof you need, we need to show ben buja how you really stunt!

who cares about machinima. we are gtastunting. we dont need to get massive popular. if it does i dont think the server of gtas could take many people trying to register.

mainstream gamers does not have anything to do here.

This isn't about getting people to register here, it's about them recognising what stunting truly is. There's no reason thinking about the negatives here, I know recently donations were needed to keep us running, i'm not sure how it's going now, but if anything revamping this community with a large collection of new, enthusiastic stunters would be great for this community. Anyway if the overall feeling is negative towards machinima, I don't have to tell them about here, they can just watch the montages on youtube I guess.

Try organizing a collab in the gta IV chat & support section. That's how things are usually handled around here.
I've yet to land a single stunt in IV so I don't recon myself as being of great aid currently, I can only do VC/SA, sadly, so does the majority of this forum lean to mostly.

Fuck becoming mainstream, and fuck IV. Let's just stay the way we are. It's pretty fucking inactive already anyway, especially in the IV section.

You're kind of missing the point there. More popularity/recognition would equal more activity, thus would spawn a new era.

It would also feel like we're gonna be doing this as our job, which is the last reason why anyone would keep stunting. That's from my perspective, at least.

Well, knowing the common youtube crowd, I bet there would be people out there willing to watch a guy simply trying to do the same stunt over and over as long as there's some bland, dry commentary to it. They'd call it entertainment no matter what. By that I mean that everyone could easily choose if they want to be in it for the money or not, the stunt vid just has to be there to kick things off, I reckon.

The real entertainment is to perform stunts yourself, but most of them don't know that anyway.

I don't think this argument would last much longer as I don't have many things left to say, so let's leave it at this.

I'm working on one with matt at the moment, sadly i'm not aware of any other IV stunters who are out there at the moment, i've heard about shadowsniper and rainbow, and of course beat as an editor, but i'm just a newbie around here, how the hell could i convince veterans of this place to land stunts for me  :|. To be fair my main game is call of duty, which is (what i think) is attracting machinima the most, and don't worry about it IV is a messed up game for stunting, it's just so much harder to do the stunts you see in VC/SA, especially grinding. I'll contact a few guys, me and matt will keep it going for now and then once it's done i'll send it off to them and see what they say. As the common theme is people here don't want to be known of, and prefer to make the montages in solitude (i don't blame them, but a break through with machinima will actually get this place the recognition it deserves) I won't mention the forum to them or anybody who watches, but i'll continue to be an active member and post anything which i'm proud of.

This place isn't about elitism, as long as you've got good organizing skills, people will see potential in you & will contribute. No one really looks at how well known a person is, it all boils down to how you behave, which, I see you're doing pretty well.

Fair enough I respect that, and I don't think its the fact that I wouldn't be able to organise it, it's that i don't think my puney laptop would be able to handle editing pc clips recorded on the replay feature. I guess I can give it a shot, and being that it would be a first project, it's expected not to be the greatest video of all time, so i'll be able to take it slow and use it as a learning curve, as well as providing machinima with something to wrap their eyes around. Cheers for the advice, i'll start drawing up some plans and ideas and see where it goes.

The reason the servers are so shite is because they can be. The activity on GTAS is so low we're pretty much entitled to servers like these.
I for one wouldn't mind having a few guys from the Machinima community register here and hang out.

To the OP: Is EfLC allowed? If so I will contribute to the video.

Fair point, and it's fully understandable considering the financial costs of running these sort of servers, must cost a fair bit even on the cheapest. Let's just hope machinima take notice of this, they've replied to one email, but you know what they're like (mr bigshots) it might take another couple of months just to get there attention. I'm currently creating a nice selection of call of duty videos for them to take a look at, along with 3 stunt montages (including this one) and a selection of other games for them to take a look at.

And of course EFLC is allowed, has the best bikes/cars to do stunts on IV. I think if this does go ahead it will have to be a live edit, my pc won't be able to handle cinematics, and I don't want to keep machinima waiting for too long. I'll also keep it clean, watched a few Ben Buja videos and the stunts are absolutely terrible, he gets away with grnding down the rails on stairs to get 3 million views, simply through cinematics. So the cleaner the edit, the better the stunts look, showing our style and skill. I'm thinking something along these lines (video below) for the edit of the actual stunts.

You know that if there's a need for it, you can always ask for someone to do the cinematics for you, pretty much the whole purpose of there being a community, to help each other out. My IV runs pretty smoothly with high end enb settings (icenhancer) & would probably record decently at stable 30 fps.
Despite that, I haven't really done any editing in IV
