How can you play a fast paced reaction fps without stable 30/60 fps?  :|

I'm running at 1920x1080 ULTRA at 60 fps.
I was talking about what you said about 35-55 fps, I feel that FPS MMO's are unplayable unless they're stable.

You're not getting my point
I understand why he hasn't got stable fps, but I'm saying that he should go for framerate instead of visuals to actually play competitively, with unstable fps, you're bound to fail.

And if you want to be such a smartass, is he even running it at 16x and 4 MSAA? Because it doesn't count as "ultra" if he doesn't have it on. And at what resolution too? Doubt he is running it at 1920x1080 or anything higher than 1280.
A thousand times this. I see people claiming they run it at ultra all the time with lots of fps, and then you find out they don't have any AA and play at 1280x720 or something.

Playing at 1920x1080 with everything at ultra and 4xAA + 16AF you're gonna get pretty terrible fps in multiplayer with a GTX550 or any AMD equivalent. Emphasis on the multiplayer because it's a lot harder on the system than singleplayer. For starters you'll run out of vram and have horrible drops with the 1GB cards. I've actually had vram usage over 2GB on some maps.

I've got a Phenom 2 X4 955 (ever so slightly clocked to 3,5ghz), 4 gigs of ram and a 7970 clocked to 1100/1525 (stock 925/1375). Playing with texture and mesh quality at ultra, 4xAA, 16AF and the rest on high, probably seen my fps drop as low as the mid thirties on some maps. I'm pretty much at 95%-100% CPU usage most of the time.

Gonna get myself a Ivy bridge CPU and mobo + a fuckload more ram though, really looking forward to that.

It's fun most of the time, specially if you're playing with some people you know. Working together as a squad is a lot of fun, I usually play with Stevex and we do pretty good. He's the worst kill stealer ever when we're flying dual jets though :euro:

Probably sucks a bit at the start with vehicles though, the unlocks makes them a lot better.

On topic: I would have got a Phenom 2 x4 as CPU instead of the FX-4100. Guess they're pretty much out of stock everywhere now though since they stopped manufacturing them a while ago. The 960T from AMD is pretty much the same and you might be able to still find that one. I can potentially be unlocked to 6 cores for some extra juice. Most games probably won't see a difference in performance whether it unlocks or not though.

It should outperform the FX-4100 without being unlocked anyway, as the bulldozer modules aren't as fast when all cores have a heavy load.

I'm trying to save up for it, 'cause it is tempting from what I've seen.
I'd probably run it at 1600x900 on mp though, 'cause I honestly don't see the difference (despite having a 25 inch monitor), when playing, for example GTA IV or Skyrim, or JC2, yet the framerate goes up significantly.

Sounds good, I should probably turn some settings down to get a bit more fps tbh :P Running at 60+ fps is just a world of difference to 40-something.

I'd say JC2 is pretty fucking unplayable without a high fps, there's just so much input lag whenever you drop low. Funny thing is I think my fps became worse in that game when I got my new card. Without AA I was at 130 fps out on some island before I turned it on and it dropped to like 40. Probably some driver bug because I probably had better performance on my old HD5870

JC2 has given me enough problems with its AA, I just simply don't bother anymore. Weirdest thing I should note, is that, if I have AA & Vsync both on, my fps gets lmited at 30 fps UNLESS I'm looking straight up or straight down (in which case, it limits to my actual refresh rate), which is totally weird, otherwise it just pretty much destroys my frames, 4x is still playable though.

I guess you're not getting 60 fps or more when not looking at the sky or the ground then, vsync simply cuts it in half down to 30 so the frames sync even when you have less than 60.  I usually never bother with v-sync anymore, I just live with the tearing if I ever get too much fps. I had to turn AA off in JC2 though, the performance hit was just waaaaay too much. It's pretty fast paced though so I don't really stop to get annoyed by the jaggies :P

I wish crossfire didn't suffer from so many strange bugs and microstuttering (honestly I've never tried but crossfire but I've heard the horror stories), would be nice to just get another card to play everything at 60+ fps whatever the settings :P
