Once you got to THUG, things went from being simple, enjoyable and fun to play to a more convoluted, awkward mess. Trick modifiers, spine transfers, hip transfers, running around on foot, driving cars - none of that shit was necessary. I understand that games have to top their predecessors to some extent, but the Tony Hawk franchise just wound up becoming desperate. The story for THUG was pretty much pointless and didn't serve the game in any way. Just give me some nice locations, some nice challenges and a nice catalog of professional skaters to pick from - that's plenty. Throwing in some half-ass story just smacked of trying too hard to fit into a genre of some kind. The one thing that I did like about THUG was the expert challenges after you'd finished the game. It gave it a little more longevity and some of those challenges kicked your ass.
I got to admit that you guys really made me want to try them all now, especially THPS2 (from your stories).
Can anyone remember what THPS game featured a level (unlockable) from Dave Mirra?
Fuck..
