joypad not fuctioning

well I bought a joypad a month ago and it works properly in every game I tried it but I can't do shit in VC I can only walk and when I am on a bike I can only do the things I can't do with 6 and 9 (from the numpad) - I can't drive, I can't shoot, I can't lean forward  no nothing 

the Joystick had a little disc with it but I haven't installed it cause it works without it being installed also I heard that there must be a joystick menu in the options of the game but I can't find and I don't know is there any at all

so I have no idea what to do so help would be apreciated

You must configure controller setup (options - controller setup - rediffine controls)
then you only have to click on e.g. acceleration, you press X or 1 dunno how's your joystick

And there's any button for it. That's why you have to redefine it on options
