The new Generation [CW rants about something so don't read it]
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:10:53 AM »
I remember the time when I started editing (2008/2009). We had 4 remindable editing crews. (Beyond Tomorrow, ReFleX HD, Visual proX and Stunn Editors).

I joined the almost dead crew SE in early 2009 and tried to join ReFleX HD until the end of 2009 when I finally got accepted. I made 3 auditions in one year.

Nowadays people audition to one crew 3 times within one month. After getting rejected they audition to another crew which they think of getting accepted by.

The dedication of working hard to get into a crew is lost. You audition and if you get rejected you simply give up and rant about the crew.

I remember SnowMan calling me an awful editor and one year later he even invited me. So guys don't give up and take everyones critism. In 1 Year you will take a look at your videos and you will notice how good you are and how bad you were back then.

Now back to Vegas and edit until your hands are bleeding!

You are the new generation. Back in the day people just edited videos and that was that, no crew-based elitism involved.

I am the midlife crisis generation actually. And I couldn't care less what you think about the editing crews aslong they are fun to many.

Of course editing crews may be fun, but do you really think so? It seems people just want to be part of something. They fear they might not be noticed if they work on their own. Everybody used to edit their own videos, nowadays it seems a handful of people that don't even stunt edit all the videos.

To me it seems we only get a couple of overedited videos with a very strange order of stunts. If everybody would edit their own videos we'd get to see a much better flow of stunts (because you know what stunts were hard and such). This would be much better than the videos we see nowadays, were it is not the stunts that do the talking but the amount of effects used does.

I am in an editing crew and I don't overedit my videos:

1. If everybody edits his own solos we will get alot of shitty solos around here because many people don't have any editing experience and not needed knowledge of the game to make good camera angles and stuff.

2. Has nothing to do with editing crews. And that's in fact something I hate, I am against overediting.

Sorry, not everybody does but people seem to rate videos more on editing than the stunts themselves. Just my two cents of course. I do, however, strongly disagree with your point about shitty solos. Everybody needs to learn and everybody was a noob once. It's a piece of making videos that you need to do yourself to become good at it.

As burn once said:

"I am not interested in editing. I only stunt." Some people just don't enjoy it so there must be editors for them otherwise it is unenjoyable.

start again

That's precisely what I was talking about. People have to find their own way, if you apply that logic to stunting then you're basically saying no one should start stunting, only people that are good at it already should.

I'm not against someone getting someone else to edit their video, but I don't see how editing crews are at all important in that process. It just seems like another thing people like to be apart of so they can brag about it.

Some people brag about it. Other people including me used the goal to join an editing crew as motivation to become a better editor.

Sometimes it's just hard to find people that are willing to have their solos (collabs etc) edited by you (especially if you're socially inept, as I am ), the editing crew function really helps you there allowing you to be more active & consequently (as a result of more steady progress) more recognized/demanded among others.
