I would buy Intel i5 processor (or higher), Asus makes good MB's, nothing changed about RAM in two years I think :D and GPU is up to your preferences I think, and get a SATA hdd (II or III) or maybe an SSD for your operating system :)

So are you talking about upgrading your current pc or upgrading to a new one?
And your current specification would be helpful  :P

For mainly gaming, I would get an i5 2500K processor with either an MSI or an ASUS P67 motherboard (or H67 and a NON-K processor if you're not overclocking). As for graphics cards, a 68XX/69XX series card from AMD or GTX560 and up from Nvidia will run any new game very well.

If you're editing or using any kind of application that requires lots of CPU power, you should get an i7 CPU (as it supports hyperthreading, which doubles the amount of threads), or an AMD X6 CPU (like for example the 1100T, which has six cores.).

As for the RAM, you will be just fine with 4gb of DDR3 if you're mainly gaming, as it does not rely much on RAM (except for the video card RAM). 8gb is advantageous in editing software and such, but it's not a necessity at all.

Oh, and SSDs are amazing, get one for your OS drive, you won't regret it. :neen:

Why not crank it up a bit and buy the i7 instead?

i7 CPUs are only really advantageous if you're using heavily threaded applications, only a miniscule frequency increase from the i5 processors and of course bragging rights. I have an i7 myself, and turning OFF hyperthreading does not affect performance at all when gaming.

He wanted to play new games well. GTS250 and 260 are not going to run new games very well (they're low-mid-end cards). And the GTS240 is just a ridiculously bad choice if you want to play Crysis 2 without lags or stuttering, it's simply just not going to work.

A GTX460 or a Radeon 5770 should be the minimum if you want decent performance in Crysis 2 (even that isn't enough for some other new games on the marked).

AMD processors are just fine for gaming, but aren't suited for it as well as the Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs. AMD has other advantages, which aren't related to games.
