My current 'situation' help needed
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:06:05 PM »
Ok so I'm on here again because I've grabbed my uncles old and defunk laptop from 2003......  :L :|

anyway

if I watch youtube on 320p the computer is at 100% and laggs to the point of 1fps on the video...

I've already deleted useless crap on the PC, I had to reset it to factory to get into it so.. it's as clean as possible.. obviously it needs more ram, how would I go about getting an extra gig for something this old and cheaply? I don't want to spend money on something this old and crappy.. and I don't have the 1200 I need to get my i7 super computer so I'm stuck with a P.O.S for a little while and I need at the very least, videos <3

if its old there should be a DDR2 memory or older... you can get those cheaply
it might be CPU issue aswell, but I think that this one should do well... what's the GPU?

No way this PC is using DDR2... 2003 = DDR
And 512 is a bit too low, you should get at least 256 more.
The only problem here is your gfx card, go get a cheap GeForce FX series card and you'll be able to play 480p videos.

OH AND WHAT HAPPENED TO AWC DU NOOB

Ok so I've installed Ubuntu then uninstalled it and reinstalled windows, it didn't seem to help too much :/

and as Set said, there's no way this has dd2... lol.. it probably pre dates the birth of the guy who invented DDR

but yeah I'll take it into a computer shop and see what they say.. that is unless they see it, fly into a rage and throw me out.. that's what I'm expecting.. but we'll see

--------

Please note that streaming internet media is too hardware intensive for this but for some reason I can run 3ds max.. I think me being a troll at times has rubbed off onto my IP and has been downloaded into every device I use because I swear they're just fucking with me.. my phone bill said I owed them $2... then the next day it said I owed them $-1.01.... FUCKING WHAT?!

Also RUNDLL32.EXE is what's causing my problems, I know nothing about it, googled it and got not much help.. when the computer's being useless, it's running at 90-100% of the computer and doesn't fix its self till I reboot.. however if the computer's not being an arse, that's just running normally.. so it's got to be a major player in this computer sucking..

EDIT: also "OH AND WHAT HAPPENED TO AWC DU NOOB" eh? AWC? ...? DU? Y U NO SENSE?!

Do you happen to have Avira Antivir installed? There were similar problems with one of the latest updates....my mum's PC wouldn't work properly either until I figured it was the Avira update

Yeah, I've got VC, LC and SA installed on my external, VC and LC work (though I need to go through LC and install alpha removals cause I had it tricked out to look nice.. :( ) and I have't tried SA yet..

Download CPU-Z and post a screenshot from the CPU and Graphics tabs. You can easily play YouTube videos with that so you should reinstall whatever OS you want to (I'd go for XP with that amount of memory) and once done you should only install the needed programs and go for the lightest ones possible, doesn't really seem like a 3D programming rig to me so leave that stuff to your primary PC.

That one doesn't look like worth spending a dime at so I'd rather buy a new secondary PC instead of upgrading that one.

Do you even have any gfx drivers? That's the first thing I would try.

"ATI's first graphics processor to be DirectX 8 compliant. It was introduced in 2001. RV200 features onchip DDR memory controler and comes with initial programmable vertex shader support. The only release was the Radeon 7500."

GREAT GFX CARD!!!!!! ........... I'll have a look at drivers but... I somehow think that's not the problem

Fun fact, this runs a lot better than the PC I had before the broken one, the one I had when 1st started stunting.

and Blaze no I didn't lol, I was just playing along with your advice combine with meg's :P
