Fps question

Easy all, Most of you wont remember me, I used to be in Xsa, And used to frequent the board many years ago. I have decided to dust off my copy of Sa and do a final video for fun, Having trouble with recording my clips with a god fps though, I don't understand it because the computer I had years ago when I used to stunt was shit compared to my production DAW I am using currently. Here are my specs, Can anyone shed any light?

Intel quad core Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz
8 gig ram
Nvidia Geforce 7100 Gs

Is it because of the mediocre graphics card I have?

Yep, defo the graphics card. I have a 7200GS and can't record at high FPS either. Try using the method recording at 15fps and then speeding up the clip with 1.666 in Vegas or any other editing software.

I got a a weaker CPU, less RAM and a 7950GT and also have problems sometimes. You shouldn't record/speed up as Genyus suggested though, that destroys the 25 FPS look (frames will overlay each other what will cause a slight motion blur look). Rather record with stabilized 10 FPS and speed those clips up to 250% to get smooth 25 FPS clips.

Cheers for the replies guys, I will have to get a new card. So what do I do Rusch? Record at 10fps in fraps, And speed up by 250 percent in vegas? I have not opened vegas for 3 years lol, This will be fun.

The method I use has always worked for me.

Basically, all you need to do is set-up fraps. Go to "Movies" settings, set 25 fps in "Video Capture Settings" and then thick the box which says "Don't sync audio and video". And then simply record stunts, either you will record with 5 fps(like I do) or any other amount of fps, the clips will always be fine.

Just go to the clip properties and disable resample and you won't have that ugly ghosting/motion blur effect, but yes, recording at 10fps and speeding up 250% is the best way.

Yep. Just insert a 10 FPS clip into Vegas and right click on it. In the right click menu click on the bottom's field called "Properties...". In that window there's an option called "Playback rate:" with the stock amount of 1,000. Change that to 2,500 to gain the 25 FPS speed.

Make sure that the frame rate is also setted to 25 FPS in the project settings (File / Properties....) and it all should be fine.


@ Hakon: 15 x 1,666666666... = 24,99999999... so you'll ALWAYS have that unwatned blur thing. It's just 0,11111111... and not much noticeable, but longer videos got thousands of frames whereas that difference can cause problems on masks to give a great example.

Wasn't 0,(9) = 1 So it'd infact be full 25 aswell.

@ Andre, I've done a recording at 15fps sped up x1,666, spinning the camera as quick as I possibly could to make the example as visible as possible, and I've made a side-by-side comparison. Project properties are set to 25fps.

Check this. If I'm not mistaken PtRvY had some bugged masking in some SMBU (2?) video caused by that 15 FPS stuff. And slow motions would also look bad that way. I know there's not too much difference and it's almost not noticeable, but I don't get why people are recording SA with 15 FPS though and lower their quality a tad on purpose.

That's simply because he DIDN'T disable resample in that vid, which causes ghosting like in my example. If the project settings are set to 25fps, resample will still try to maintain that framerate even if it's at something else (like 24,999999999...) which causes overlapping/ghosting. Disabling resample will just make the clip 24,9999999...fps even with the project settings at 25fps.

I tried recording at 10fps, Then sped up like you said in vegas, The clip sped up ok and looked normal. But the quality became impaired and had nuff lines all the way down it, You will have to excuse my ignorence it's been so long since I did any editing, I have even forgot what settings I used to render at man. Can anyone help? Doing my head in lol, I might just have to get someone to edit a video for me when I have done all my stunts.
