Slow Alt+Tab-ing
« on: November 24, 2010, 02:20:26 PM »
Well heres the deal, i had a nVidia GPU about 2 or 3 months ago it was GeForce 9500GT 1GB DDR2, when i used to alt+tab out of something in full screen (only games) it was instant and thats how its supposed to be, now when i got my new GPU which is Radeon HD5770 1GB DRR5, alt+tab-ing out of a game is instant, BUT HERE IS THE PROBLEM going back into game takes about 5 to 7 seconds, it might sound not-so-big-deal BUT it pisses me off sometimes and i'd like to make it instant like before, HAWLP  :cc_detective:?

I'll mention again, only games, anything else is just fine.

I got 1 word for you, ATI

No but seriously, while I had my 48xx's I had a lot issues like those, after I exchanged my old 4850 for my current GTS250 I had no problems at all. Maybe its something related to drivers, I don't know

I doubt it's the card that's the problem. I have the same thing with my GTX480's, when alt-tabbing out and in. The black screen lingers for me, as I play some games with AA and supersampling. The GPU needs to load the renders for those, and bump up its speed from 2D mode to 3D mode clock speeds/mem speeds/shaders. Same thing applies when alt-tabbing out, which takes up time as well. I turn off AA and I get quick alt-tabbing. (You have ATI which may be different) Additionally, what factors in is: as the game runs in fullscreen, the desktop switches to Aero Basic mode. Therefore when leaving the game, it needs to load Win7 Aero mode.

When recording shitloads of replays this is just pretty irritating to wait 7 seconds after each time like what the hell? and especially when playing a multiplayer game and hiding quickly in a corner to go out and do something quick and go back in, THAT process is something impossible, so yea, you're a complete ass now  :P, nah just kidding you do know i love you deep deep inside banned lol.

Oh and this alt+tab-ing problem is a driver problem i googled but i couldn't google anymore because it was a huge ass topic so i thought some of you guys might have fixed it before, that doesn't make this card or ATi shit at all tho, this card is pure awesome sauce for a pure awesome sauce price and can handle anything in a pure awesome sauce way

banned lol.
See! You are just a mod to abuse your powers. You love to ban people for some reason I dont know but you're just obsessed.

just kidding

And Im not a computer geek so I wouldn't know but alt tabbing taking like 5-7 seconds doesn't sound that bad, not even when recording replays. I mean, my computer is shit, it takes ages to alt tab out of TF2. SA is a onesecond switch though, using Nvidia.

I can't really remember well of ATi drivers, but are your settings set to performance and not to quality?

I had the latest drivers and the problem was there, but the latest drivers fucked my Magic Bullet Looks, it couldnt load, and some people said downgrading will fix that problem, and some others said downgrading might fix the alt+tab-ing problem too... so i did downgrade and nothing different.

Edit: The latest drivers i had were 10.7, i'm trying 10.11 now, i guess it wont make any difference, well i'll post =P

Oh, can't believe I didn't think of that. I only alt+tab out of games like once or twice every time I play, but yeah it totally makes sense that it pisses you off when you have to change reps all the time, my bad! Hope you work it out ^^

btw, if you have two pcs, one stationary and a laptop f.ex, you could manage reps on one pc and record on the other if you have them on the same network. I used to do this and it made the whole process alot smoother
