It is an amazing song indeed, but I doubt there are many people here who actually enjoy 20 minute songs. I'm glad there's someone here who knows Opeth too. Too many people who never heard of them die everyday. :(

It's a shame people don't make the difference between good and bad metal, it's not their fault though, way too many shitty bands emerged from nowhere, became famous and put the good bands on the second place. That's why most of people believe old bands are better than new ones, that is totally untrue imo.

o'rly

Opeth - BeNighted               <<< check this one first. It's a ballad though.

This one is headbangable and has mostly clean vocals.
Opeth - Reverie/Harlequin Forest

Well it seems most of the ideas have been put it so I guess I'll fill in mine.

Honestly, I'm probably a walking contradiction, so try to keep up.

I really think this whole thing is ridiculous. I started this because I was looking for something (forgot) that had to do with rock/song. And I ended up on a site where this guy, who apparently knows what he's talking about since he took a major or something in music, constantly bag on new rock/metal.

So instead of finding some way on the internet to personally flame him I wanted to hear other's thoughts on it first.

I myself think there is really no point to be making a big deal of these types of things. I mean I can say I think old rock/metal sucks, but I can't say old rock/metal sucks. mostly because it would be a lie. It's all opionated and other than that I find it a good thing that old rock/metal came before current songs, it means I've grown up knowing what I currently like and stuff.

Here's where I'm a contradiction. I say old sucks but I also say there's nothing better than the oldies.
Before I got on this topic and while typing this I went back to my old playlist of songs that I have literally RAPED one way or another.
Honestly I miss the times when I first discovered them when I would check my mp3 and see 'played this song 150+ times' or 'most played songs in a list of 1-10' playing old games in my old noobie playhouse :D

So basically I don't know why there are so many people bagging on new rock/metal I find it's more of new genre listeners being more passerby and nonchalant and oldies hating on what rock/metal has become. I mean I myself would be proud of the way it has evolved.

But yeah
