it's a bad idea to use programs like this and CCcleaner

WTF.. CCcleaner.. just deletes internet cookies etc.. how does that damage your computer?

The registry fixes can cause the problems, and the way it goes about changing startup processes and such is flawed. It's a free product and it shows (not to say all free products are bad, but it's not great ). The way the program has been made isn't as much of a problem, it's what it does and how it goes about improving performance that is bad. Many of the registry files it supposedly 'fixes' will cause problems and potentially decrease performance over time, and people have had issues with reverting changes on startup processes and such.

However, some people would completely disagree with me and I'm not a complete expert, so I'm not going to claim I'm 100% right because that would just be ridiculous . It's the same with things like defragmentation, there's two schools of thought on it. Some would say that it declusters your files, and so then they will become more organised and easier to read. However, the other argument (which I side with) is that the files are fragmented in such a way that actually helps performance, it's done for a reason. So defragmenting this actually makes it harder for your computer to read the files on your hard drive, slowing it down over time. There's evidence that goes both ways.

I usually just turn off the unneeded processes manually, I usually have around 30+ processes & half of them I don't really need, since they don't make any difference in the way my pc acts, they just swallow up valuable resources. From my experience, registry cleaners & performance/memory boosters are totally unreliable & will only cause problems, I spent a week trying to fix my comp after only 1 simple "pc fix" I even had all the stuff backed up, but it turned out that the prog (uniblue registry booster) had infected my pc with tons of malicious malware thus making it unusable.
And that prog isn't fucking free, it's expensive, who would fucking pay for having their pc filled with viruses?

I have my old latop and it slightly improves its performance, but not really a huge difference.

Look into it more, I haven't spent ages looking into it but I'll say this, if you're using such an old PC that you need a program like this to get games to run properly, then you'll probably end up with new hardware before the software bugs out. I had 0 issues with this messing up my PC's but they were old and needed to be upgraded which is what ended up happening.

No offense to SS but whether he's right or not, there's no convincing him otherwise, so read what he has to say and google it, then compare a bunch of different advice and decide yourself

Hey dude, my opinion can change on a whim at the discovery of new information . Regardless, I actually use CCleaner all the time now, and have never had a problem with the registry fixes. As long as you know what you're doing, you wont have a problem with it. If you don't know what you're doing, don't touch CCleaner, because you could delete things that you actually need.

It's not always the best idea to expect opinions to stay the same over the course of three years . You learn things from different sources, then you try them for yourself and realise what's actually true and false. You can use CCleaner, and you can defragment any mechanical hard drive without issue. In fact, you should.
