I need a new mobo
« on: May 16, 2010, 07:58:03 AM »
Yeah.. my motherboard is currently fucked up and I need a new one. I had a Striker II NSE from Asus, but unfortunately by trying to take off my CPU fan I've damaged some part of the printed circuit (screws were broken and very hard to take off).

So yeah.. Now I need a new motherboard, I don't feel like buying the same I had, it would be nice to try something new and different. The problem is that I don't have much ideas. I'm also wondering if this is possible to run a quad core from Intel socket 775 on a motherboard made for i7. I'm thinking of buying a i7 at the end of this year but not now, so if I'm able to run my current CPU on that kind of mobo it will be nice for me since I save money. I also need a motherboard which is able to run DDR3.

Last thing, I don't feel like buying an extra expensive motherboard, it shouldn't cost more than 200 euro. Thanks in advance guys, I hope you all will be helpful to me. Heippa!

May I suggest repairing the broken circuit and saving for a real upgrade?  :D

First: Try laying the broken Mobo in the Oven for 10minutes at 100-110°C. If it still doesn't work after that...well then:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131274&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3899435&SID=skim1402X558040

And no you can't install LGA 775 CPU's on LGA1156/1366 Sockets...sadly :(

Putting my motherboard in the oven? Sounds more like a joke than anything else hmm..
I had a Striker II Extreme some times ago, nothing really different from the NSE, still had bios problems with both of them :P

Nah I'm serious. Even some companys do that. Faulty soldered joints get heated up again and melt together (happens at around 100-110°C). I've seen it work with a few video cards (HD4870 and 8500GT)

Well there aren't too many 775 boards with DDR3 support. I'd suggest you to go for a 1156 Board right away and buy a i5 750 with it. (Should be around 350€ all together)

Okay, thank you so much for the help :>

EDIT:
- Asus P7P55D LE
- Intel i5 750

Total for 300 euro. Seems to be pretty cool, if someone think I should get a better mobo, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions.

you can fix faulty soldering joints if the board is ROHS approved by heating it

buttt since your problem had nothing to do with a faulty joint I think KM is a nutjob  :cc_detective:

good luck though
