Laptop advice needed.
« on: November 20, 2008, 05:50:24 PM »
Alright, guys. So I'm running an HP Pavilion with an Nvidia 9200M GS and 4 gigs of ram, a 300Gig HD and Vista (lack of drivers made the downgrade a failure).

I HATE this thing. Really, I do. The keys keep popping out, and the casing is falling apart. The screen hinges are loose and I'm afraid it won't be able to support itself in about 2 months. I've had the thing for like 2 months and I have been taking extremely good care of it. It plays WoW on low settings at about 17-20 FPS in open-areas and DiRT at like 10FPS if it doesn't crash. VC ran at about 25-30 but was really choppy and crashed, then stopped working even after several installs.

I payed abut $1,300 (CAD) for this, but I'm considering taking it back and asking for my money or a swap of sorts.

My question,
is there anything good out there for 1300 bucks that's a laptop? A desktop is not an option because I'm currently living in a small apartment with family of 5 and I have no room to put one. I also need to take it to school and such.

I'm not a brand fanboy, but I'd like something that could at least run WoW on settings that makes the game look enjoyable to play.

Any help would be madly appreciated! I'm getting extremely frustrated with this HP piece of trash.

Keep it wasted.

1,300.00 CAD = 1,638.30 AUD.

Not a lot considering it's a laptop. Unless you can pay a buttfuck of cash, all you'll be getting is specifically what the laptop is designed to do: get carried around, go on the internet and use MS Word.

IMO Asus and Dell are your best options for a laptop.

I'm looking at anything in that price range, really. I am disgusted with the performance and physical setbacks I have endured with this "Performance gaming pc" that never lived up to that title. I'm going to take my computer back to the store I bought it from tomorrow and demand it be replaced (Since I haven't even had it for 60 days) or repaired free of charge or I want my money back.

To be honest, I don't like HP though from this experience and would like something better.

From what you described it actually sounds alright and should definitely perform better then it is. Seems a fault is occurring somewhere, go get a replacement.
