guitars that stay in tune are important so keep that in mind when picking one. usually anything under $700 is shit so try out a high end prestige RG Ibanez model.

This, unless its a fixed bridge model, then you're fine. Honestly if you're gonna be checking out amps, take your own guitar unless you're gonna get a new guitar also. Try a bunch of tube amps, please...I've learned overtime that solid state amplifiers unless they're very high end aren't very good.
I'm not gonna carry my guitar around outside lol. I doubt my grandma/pa would take me and want to wait while I check out every single amp there, too. >_>

I'm not saying every amp, and you should take your guitar because your guitar is not gonna sound the same on whatever amplifier you buy if you play a different one while testing it out....but that should be obvious.

Here's a list under 1000 bucks of amps you should try.

Bugera 6260
Bugera 333XL
Bugera 6262
Peavey Valveking (you're gonna have to put a pedal through this one if you want higher gain)
Peavey 5150/6505 (Combo version, since the halfstacks new are over 1000)
Vox Valvetronix and Valvetronix XL
B-52 AT-100 Halfstack (Surprisingly, its not bad for 900 bucks)

ENGL Screamer, if you can push your budget

you didn't give a specific budget, so the highest I went was 1400.

I think you're pushing it a little much Eric. I'd think he was looking for amps in the 500-700 dollar range. Mine was originally 350, and it sounds great, I'm sure he'd like it as well.

Most of them are I believe, the Bugera combos are 700 I believe, and they're apparently 5150/6505 clones, I included some higher end ones in case he can stretch his budget a bit.

Yeah... My price range is $300, but if it was worth it i'd be willing to go as high as $400.

If you're not in a band and don't plan on joining one there's no reason to buy an expensive amp.

Even if you are in a band you should wait until you guys are ready to play shows to buy an amp.

I can argue with that logic. I think more expensive and better amps are great for practice. They come with effects, and way more features than your standard practice amp that you can mess around with, and find what's good and what's not. The ones that have effects built right into them make things more fun to experiment with.

But it's really a matter of choice though.

If he wants more effects he can just buy this.

Expensive amps are for performing.  If you don't do it, you don't need one.

The reason i'm looking for a new amp is because I want something that doesn't sound sluggish, and just not right. I highly doubt "First Act" is known for their great amps. >_>

Blah that's a good point, I would even go as far as getting this

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product...ssor?sku=151065

Its small, but if you connect it up to a decent sound card and have a good set of speakers, you have about 300 different amplifiers to choose from...and if you dont like any of them, you can download them  plus I believe this has direct recording, if not get the bigger one like Blah says.

I can do that with my RP150, but it just doesn't sound that good..(The sound itself, the speakers are fine.)
