Ok so I had this Acer, and it was falling apart and stuff (eg. screen loose, keys missing) and then the place where you charge it up (the circular hole) just seemed to stop working and wouldn't charge up at all. So I got it repaired and it worked fine for around a week before it started going again. Now it's completely broken and there is no chance of it working again unless I repair it (which cost good money I'm not doing it again)

I was wondering if I could somehow still recieve the files I've got on there, I've got important school work on there as well. I'll have to redo it otherwise

Try to open it and remove the hdd, look which kind it is(IDE or SATA) and plug it into your pc.

you can just take out the hard drive and put it in another pc

Taking out the hard drive would be difficult, from what I can understand he is talking about a laptop. In which case taking it apart and removing the hard drive will be quite hard for him to do, presuming his knowledge on computers isn't great.

Didn't know that and true. Hell, my first time building a pc was hell for me

Might as well just buy a new laptop then.

It isn't such a problem to open a laptop, you may just need some special screwdrivers and you'd should remember how to put it all together at the end again.

Torekk, opening the laptop and what not will be easy, but from personal experience it is a bitch to keep it working again after putting it back together, I tend to avoid doing it on laptops.

Well I mean if your pretty much okay with your laptop being dead, I would do what these guys suggested and take apart your laptop and take out the HDD and get the info off it. But If you still want the lappy working I wouldent recommend taking it apart, as when I took apart my old lappy there were ALOT of spring loaded devices that I was never able to get in place again.

Err...it isn't actually difficult. Most of the time the hard drive is located only under one casing, like the memory. It isn't rocket science, and if he doesn't know how to do it now, he can just look up a "laptop for dummies" tutorial and save his money.
