Torrent speed in AUS
« on: May 18, 2008, 05:16:38 PM »
So I'm downloading a 600mb torrent and I'm getting an average of about 3kb/s. I've forwarded the ports in the way the guides tell me, but the speeds have not improved. The best I got out of it was 10kb/s when it was 300% health with about 6 peers/4 seeds. Is anyone else in Australia getting this annoying result out of their downloader, or have you found a way around it? Anyone can tell me how to max it out.

I've had to resort to leaving the PC on while I'm at school. Using this method I hope to have the file by the end of the week.

Happens to me all the time, It's not your fault. Find a better one with a decent connection with a bit more seeders and you'll get like 100-200 (my avg is like 80 though, but sometimes reaches 170, on a 1500/256 connection)

It's about your connection and torrent's seeds, use private trackers for best solution.

Even downloading from the internet I only get a max of 55kb/s. It could be because of my distance from the city, or because of my router/wireless speeds. Here's a screen:

Torrents used to be slowish for me too, then we bought the router up here to get it on my brothers computer and we had an extra e-net cord and hooked up my pc to it and it was alot faster. (I now get 500-600kbs from websites)
So if you can get off wireless while you're downloading.

I've tried just unplugging the wireless and left the cord in, but it didn't work. I'll try it again tomorrow morning.

Use µTorrent/ABC/Azureus, that's the first step. Then trigger the port your client is using, www.portforward.com may help a bit. Make sure the torrent has a lot of seeders, without 'em you won't get anything. As I said, use private trackers for better result.

It's all about your connect. For example, if you have a 1/512 connection, you won't download a lot faster than ~100kB/s. Properly working wireless connection doesn't eat the speed.
