Anyone have black screen after new RAM
« on: March 05, 2008, 04:54:18 PM »
So, my PC is kinda old. about 5 yrs. I had 1 gig of 3200 DDR RAM, and I just put in two new gig sticks to help with many progs. Now my screen is black, there is no boot up and the LED is flashing meaning something is wrong.....Has anyone run into this problem and have it resolved.

I've looked around, and haven't found anything to helpful, other than resetting the CMOS or BIOS.
Is that a manual thing i can do physically, or specifically in the settings menu which i can't reach.

Thanks, and any help would be appreciated as there are a couple million things i cherish to keep on that machine, and a couple of gta projects that have been worked on for a lonnnnnnng time.

Please only helpful advice posts.

Do you have Unbuffered Non-ECC ram or Buffered ECC ram?

Nvm what I just said...Whats the full capacity of ram that your computer can take?  Maybe you put more than it should have since your computer is "old"

Yeah I'd check what Godson said first. Would be surprised if a 5 year old machine could even handle 2 gigs.
You shouldn't have to reset anything after ya add new memory, atleast I have never had to, just shows up as being there. It is DDR Ram you bought right? If you remove the new sticks and put the old one back, does it boot up ok?

From what neo said, if it doesn't, you could have knocked into something while installing the ram, and that's causing it not to work.

Are all the ram sticks exactly the same?

It sounds like you are putting in the two new ones with the old one trying to get 3gb ram, but that wont work unless the ram is the same type  (it isn't so clear )

the above post is not helpful at all.....(sry but i want to keep this topic clear of useless posts as i don't have alot of time) and the fact that i'm frustrated as fuck)
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

i have 2 512 sticks of DDR 3200 in atm. I tried putting in 2 1 gig sticks of the same type. Even same brand. As far as i know, my mobo can handle that, but i'll double check.

The speeds are the same, but the sizes are 2 512 , then the 2 1 gigs.

I took them out, and it still won't reboot. I was pretty careful, putting them in.

I'll get some more info when i get time like i said. Anyways, thanks again and back to class

Thanks Ruchy.   I would be forever in your debt mate

well, i tried just the new ram. nope
the old. nope
one stick of the new. nope

Reset the CMOS. nope
Next i think i'll try taking the battery out for a lil bit, and putting it back into the mobo. Friend of mine suggested it.
