Those patterns are just fundamental scales, they're modes, that's the correct terminology. Just learn those so called "modes" or scales if you will, and you'll know pretty a pretty decent library of music.

I have gone off learning theory quite a lot now, I don't think it's necessarily that important creatively. If you want to compose new stuff just experiment and see what sounds good, I find I can acheive more honest, original music that way.

Simply put:

Modes are exactly like the major scale, they just start and end with a different root note. Different modes give you different feelings, for example the minor scale, or the aeolian mode, gives you a saddish feeling. Try not to limit your music to scales and modes though, try to experiment a bit with chromatism and you might get something good.

Naw, I'm still dirty on some techniques like sweeping and alternate picking, and everything I just said is what you taught me lol. I learned stuff from how you improvised and I use it in some of my acoustic jams, heh.

I find the most comfortable way to play is with my leg crossed, and with my guitar raised about 60 degrees up, while resting on my leg. I usually end up playing a lot cleaner when sitting like that. It does get quite comfortable sometimes as well, even though I sometimes feel like a pansy sitting like that. Haha.

Most of the time I play like that, I also play in front of my computer monitor with a black background and music running so I could jam to it and also see that there's correct finger technique being used. Dont worry a lot of people in latin american sit that way regularly, its become a trend in the U.S to think you're a pansy if you sit that way, but I dont pay attention to it

My favourite scale is any harmonic minor. Sounds so damn sexual!
