Go to the movies tab and change the option to 'Full-size'. Also, your resolution ingame can't be more than 1280x *** or something like that.

For single core processors you can't record more than 1152 x 864 full screen.

if you use an old version it probably can record 640x480 only. if the resolution is bgger ingame, it will only record the upper right 640x480
