Torque: I did, no help, I ran dxdiag to see what version of DirectX I have, I have DirectX 9.0 with pixel shader 3.0, but still it won't let me play.

Portal: I can go through... I'd say 1 minute of the first level. The first portal opens, I step through, game crashes.

Team Fortress 2: I can completely connect to a server and the moment before the little loading screen finishes, game crashes.

Same problem for both games, basicly, but neither I can figure out.

Neither does using =.=

Tell us what your hardware is and update your graphics drivers. Like you expect us to get somewhere without info.

Might be a bad download? Or Steam doesn't like you?

Olin: I have just the hardware to play it just a bit below the Recommended settings, but I don't think it's registering my DirectX update, it still says I have 8.0 in game...

Ph33r: Doubt it really...

Bu: Yes, when I mean I can't play it I mean the game crashes at a certine point. TF2 at the very last bar of loading, Portal when you go through the first portal.

if they are asking for specs, they ask for your specs and maybe a screen of dxdiag and not some: "i should be able to play"

The Source engine utilizes DX7 - DX9. Based on your hardware, it will choose which DirectX version to run. Sometimes you might not be happy with the performance and you can change this yourself.

If DirectX 8 is crashing, try running them with -dxlevel 70. Either under launch options in Steam or adding the parameter to the shortcuts.
