I originally posted this at overclock.net, but I thought i'd post it here to just incase you guys were wondering how or just wanted it to be cleared up.

Hey guys, this is my first tutorial, so please go easy on me

I'm sure most of you know how to do this, but the reason I made this tutorial is because I posted this at another forum that isn't an overclocking/computer forum. I thought, I might as well post it here to in case some people don't know how or are unclear on how to do it or not.

Well lets start off with the materials you'll be needing:

Wipe it off with whatever you're using.

Well that was my tutorial on how to install a heatsink and thermal paste! My temps dropped down 6 degrees celcius after I reseated because I originally had really bad contact with my CPU and heatsink, so I benefited out of this as well. I hope this tutorial helped you out, and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

I have no idea what a heatsink OR thermal paste is, but this looks like a pretty thorough and detailed tutorial, so good job for that .

Is that thermal glue, looks like you nutted on your cpu.

Btw coincidence that you made this tut, today i installed two hsf. I bought Zalman CNPS9700 LED hsf for my Opteron 185, and i put together my sisters new comp. I bought her the same system as you Brandon, except for the mobo. She has an Asus mobo(Forgot the name), C2D 6550, 2gigs of Corsair ram identical to yours, ATI 1950 pro, 500mb HD. LOL, and all she wants it for is to surf the web. Cost her about $1000.

Tell me about it, with the stock hsf i was getting 46-49 degrees celsius, and now with the Zalman i get 30-34. 34 being at full load. I also bought a vga fan. Might take pics someday.

Oh and i call it thermal glue, dont ask me why, i think thats how i first saw it on a forum and it stuck.

I think thermal paste is paste ( GO FIGURE) that can resist high temptures...

I think a heatsink (propably wrong) is something that controls how fast your fan rotates to cool your computer... I'm wrong aren't I?
