This makes sense to me... Although not so much since they released the trailer and already developed the character.

But they could easily just do this to separate the tutorial from the main game... Just call it the prologue and let players skip it if they already know how to play.

wasnt this confirmed by rockstar allready? I remember Dan Houser beeing asked about this and he replied ..."one of the main characters is niko b."...
Also it was beeing said that you might be able to control different people in future GTA's once SA was released. This is also allready happening in the PSP Versions, also there are some missions in the LCS script which give you control of other people you see in the storyline

I found the same info, I forget where, but anyway, it says it might be true, but it could also be fake. In the article it says that Niko dies from this drug deal, and then his cousin finds out and comes to Liberty City to get revenge. Now this is where that "leaked info" gets screwed up:
NIKO GOES TO LIBERTY CITY 'CAUSE OF HIS COUSIN TELLING NIKO HOW GREAT IT IS FOR HIM.
And now this crappy info comes along saying his cousin comes to LC AFTER Niko "dies"

well lets see here niko bellic is the main charecter with the jacket. any rockstar employee that would leak would be immediatly firsed and have the info taken down. odds are 0:0 not gonna happen
