It decreases the multiplier by 2 when idle and brings it back up to 8.0 when load. But 8x263=2136. Stock clock on the Q6600 is 2.4ghz I thought it was 2.6ghz so I was off by 200mhz. Either way my E6750 scores a high 18 clocked at 2.6ghz and he has 2 more cores then me so when it kicks back up to 8.0 on the multiplier hes still gets 3 seconds less and that only leads me to believe something is not changing the bus speed back to 300 if that is underclocked for powersaving as well.

Any idea how to bring the multiplier back up to 8? Then I can run the test again..

P.S: I haven't OC-ed my processor yet.. Don't want to..

The multiplier is not your problem, the bus speed is.

Follow that and set your CPU frequency back to 300mhz (Thats the default for the 6600 series.) if you want to get what you paid for.
Then run orthos for a few hours, 9 hours is perferred but since your not really doing any "over" clocking you should need about 4hours max. Monitor your temperatures as your doing this make sure its not getting over 65 with the 100c Tjunction, if its the 85c Tjunction then make sure its not getting over 50c.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this then call Asus tech support.

Not if your bus speed is set to 267mhz in bios.

But according to the multiplier, i need a bus speed of 400MHz to get what I paid for.. 300 will only get me 1.8GHz.. But the thing is, if there is a way to change the multiplier to 9, then 267 will be just fine.. I do notice that in CPU-Z, the multiplier flits from 6 to 9 but its usually stable at 6...

*sigh*
do you even read anything
intel cpus have energy saving technology that changes the multiplier... look in cpuz when your stressing the cpu you will see that its 8
8x300= 2400

I ran a CPU stress/stablity test to prove your theory.. And turns out, when the CPU has like 25% usage, it jacks to 2.4GHz.. Here's the proof.. BTW, the multiplier changes to 9 instead..
