How to install bike skins

To start off with, you're going to need a .txd file of the bike/car you want to replace.  As it is most often the PCJ that people want to use, I'll be using the file 'pcj600.txd' for this tutorial. These can be bought at the marketplace (Click here) for a small amount of forum points, or for free if you get one off a nice guy .  They can be opened using programs such as TXD Workshop, but don't worry about that, you wont need to open them to get the bike ingame.

Firstly, you need to close all instances of Vice City, as you can't modify game content while you have the game open.  Next, you need to install a little program called IMG Tool.  This will be used to open the gta3.img file which contains most of your game data, including a lot of models and textures.  This can be downloaded HERE.

Okay, so you've downloaded and installed IMG Tool.  Before you make any modifications to your game, you need to disable the 'Read-Only' feature of Grand Theft Auto which is set by default.  To do this, navigate to your gta3.img, found in 'C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\models', then right click on it, and click properties.  You will then see the file information.  Scan down until you see a box with the words 'Read-Only' next to it...if it is unchecked, then you are ready to install the bike, but if it is filled in, then you'll need to click on it so that it becomes unchecked, then press OK.

Now you should be ready to put your .txd into the game.  Open IMG Tool, then go to file > open.  Once you have found the gta3.img again, open it and press F2.  You now need to find the txd which you want replacing, so type it in then hit enter.  To install my PCJ skin, I'd type in 'pcj600.txd'.  Once the txd has been found, hit the delete button on your keyboard to get rid of it.  Then go to commands > add, and find where your custom skin has been saved, highlight it and press Open.  You're then free to close IMG Tool, it will automatically save.  Now you're done!  If you've followed this tutorial properly, you should now have a shiny new vehicle ingame to play with.

If you screwed it up, here are the most common error messages and how to fix the problem:

File Access denied

Make sure that file hasn't been set to Read Only and that your gta-vc/gta-lc.exe is closed. Also make sure that the .txd/any other file you're importing ain't opened in any other program.

I think using GGMM it's much easyer

Link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/130376782/ggmm.rar.html

- First extract the files into your Vice city folder, and run it.
- Put PCJ for find the bike

- Then select: installer - Manual Mod Installer.

- After that select the TXD Textures and find your PCJ.txd and select Install.

And done you have installed your bike skin without any problems.

I do still get "Error, this file might be in use....exiting...", when I restarted my computer, then I filled out gta-vc.exe and gta3.img Read-Only part, and still getting that error, so what is the problem?

PS. I also tried re setup vc

Take the tap out of "Read only", make that to the whole VC folder.
