Shame on you for not remembering the greatest SA video ever made - Chapter XXIII by TMS. Uninstall right now!
Chapter XXIII was a very nice video, but for me it's not even the best in 2008 - GLS' Wergild was by far my fave from then. In terms of pure feeling (excluding the stunt quality) I think one of your productions in 2008 also takes the cake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiT4r74Ta6M - that was a real shocker for me editing-wise.

So, a question for other WHers, since we're already on this topic: what's your favourite SA video and why?

By the way, has anyone known anything about Herr-Dav'? When he said he wouldn't spent time in here anymore, he really meant it, he doesn't even lurk (at least with it account). I'm wondering how's he doing.
Good question, I'm interested too.
From what I gathered (and I did not gather much), HD is now a professional editor.

Althought it caught me by surprise, I can imagine HD being a professional editor, he was and still is one of the greatest around here and I'm happy for him if it's really true

As for the favourite SA video question, I'd say it's Onslaught. Tight one between that and Megaton because these two feel like twins for me, released in the same year, in the same period of time, with a similar line-up, similarly good stuff and 2-2 of the best songs ever used. But for some reason I feel Onslaught a little bit better. I might not be so impressed by the older videos because I wasn't really around in that times (for example Chapter XXIII), but don't get me wrong, those are still one of the most enjoyable and atmopsheric videos even for me, I just find the 2009 WH "era" better, despite modding. Another candidate would be obviously OON by MMM, which is arguably the most perfect video editing and stuntingwise and it made me feel like no other video ever did, I just think it was released "too late" to become the best and most influental video.

Of course that's a matter of opinion. The fact is that it is a remarkable video and amongst the greatest SA ones ever made for sure. Considering the time it got released, it was simply rad. The topic's reply-counter even surpassed As One Again (almost 400, no modding talk). Personally I haven't been shocked by a single stunting video ever since. Onslaught (excluding the mods) was decent to me, but not even close.

This will probably sound stupid, but I really hate how clueless newer people seemingly are. I can not really blame you for not being around earlier, but that is must-have-seen material and shouldn't be forgotten regardless.
No hard feelings, but I'll give you all an hour's detention! :euro:

This is the reason many people still consider UnorthodoX for being the best VC video ever done, but to be honest there are a lot of videos (even from Barney) which are a lot better stunting wise. The fact that it was released 8 years ago (wow that was weird to write down) brings up some odd experience for the people being around then, and for those who joined the stunting world later.

For me, UnorthodoX has always been my favourite stunting video. It might not match up to today's standards (or Barney's later solos), but it blew everything away at the time. It blew them away to such a degree that it single-handedly changed VC stunting. It's impossible to match that now in VC/SA, given that we know so much about them, but that's why it's my favourite stunt video of all time (and maybe the same for some other old members). I think we can still see a video like that in GTA V, so here's hoping :euro:.

That's exactly what I wanted to say. Even videos released after the 2008-2009 mark didn't have that much influence to stunting simply because at that time people and stunting become to the point where landing something unique didn't surprise most of the people around here. Of course there are probably dozens of videos which had a lot more effort put into them then the effort put into UnorthodoX, but the fact that it was so out of the standards influenced most of the stunters.
Probably that's the reason that my favourite video is DCLXVI, because the amount of bigair stunts in that video was so unique that I've never seen before. Even though the stunts themselves aren't that much difficult to land (even myself landed most of them during my carreer) they seemed so outstanding among the videos released back then.

Another factor: The SA FL on/off thing was an important game changer. I think new guys just can't appreciate good old stuff due to lack of experience with the limiter enabled. Stunts by Kert, TD & Explo for example don't seem too big nowadays, but they were back then. In my eyes that makes it an unfair comparison.

Sadly it mostly became about higher & further, hence the strong propensity to mod. I'd love to see sucky modders struggle trying to reland some of the aforementioned guys' stunts with FL on in a clean game installation. :P

The wow-factor is also a big thing. Let's say someone discovered a new method and did a medicore stunt using it. People usually will be impressed by it since it's something new and unseen. Later on someone else tops the stunt with the same method, but it gets less appreciation simply because it ain't new no more. Same goes for landing specific stuff (i.e. a roof/precision that everyone thought wouldn't ever be landed).

Edit - @Petar: Course has always been extremely overrated in my eyes. However, that's a perfect example for how individual the definition of awesomeness is. :P

I totally agree with what has been said by Rusch in here, I also think As One Again is in the top 3 of best SA videos but it doesn't get the deserved recognition due to previously mentioned factors. :ajaja:

Not to spam this topic, are you guys trying V out? Maybe a video coming?

If I recall corectly the frame limiter thingy started around Unbroken when DC landed finisher with it off. Juan was trying it fl on. Then fl off became more popular.

Sorry for unnecessary reply in here yet again but I think it was fairly earlier than Kukiel pointed out. For instance, As One Again was released in 2006, RAD & Fugitive were already using it, I remember ExPlosion saying they were racing for the opener and Fugi 'ruined' it with FL:Off. :P

I'd like to give a shot on V now it's been released on pc, nothing sure right now.

Through the years and from my experience I can say fl-on is only usefull for:
-Grabbing
-kick-ass grind executions (rotations)
-combos with long grinds (your speed decrease slowly on a grind using fl-on, so you can easily reach second grind if the first one is long)
-stoppies combos (stoppie to backwards stoppie is easier to perform with fl-on and requires less speed)

Well yeah I meant that it started being acceptable after Unbroken.
