How to make FireFox 20x faster
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:04:05 PM »
This is completely safe, apparently.

Quote
- Type "about:config" in the address box
Scroll down and search for these things.

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally there's 1 request at a gate. if u set the maxrequest higher. it will download through more gates, and it will go faster.

Change it to these settings.

- put "network.http.pipelining " op "true"
- put "network.http.proxy.pipelining" op "true"
- put "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" On a numer like 20.
He wil do 20 request at a time ! so it's 20 times faster ! WOW!

- As last click New --> Integer
Give it the name "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and put the value on 0

Hmm... i read the same in a german forum, i'll try it out, i got a Script blocker for FF, so if it's a virus or something like that, it will be blocked.

//Edit: WTF? It's really faster and i don't got a message yet. So i gonna use that now.

Well, this works very good for slow internet connections. I don't notice it that much.

It is faster but does it qualify as overclocking your computer?

wooo opera has these settings as default... Make sure you also change the same settings for your networks card tcp interface... caue that.. will make the whole internet faster - games too etc (smaller ping)

you might want to change the mtu too - google around

VenomX: Nope. cant break your hardware - its only enabling more connections at once - though, most sites either block multiply requests or it crashes your firewall (only bad ones lol) and such..

Torque: Nope, it will only allow more connections at the same time - but remember that some providers dont like that - thats also why they hate p2p
Though, some servers need callback ports - windows has 1 opened port by default which cant be closed, when setting more connections using pipelining you might want to open up more ports (which is a security risk)

Torekk: A german tool is called like DFÜSpeed (Datenfernübertragungs-geschwindigkeit), its able to change these settings - though, be carefull with them. Tuneup also has such features - just google that stuff.
(Setting a higher MTU (Maximum transmision unit) will allow bigger packets to be send / received which means that your downloads get slightly faster, but also ping packets of games/transfers would be collected until a higher lenght for the packet is reached to reach the mtu which will make a higher ping and more timeouts). Also windows does have a maximum number of connections setting.
Then your hardware has a limit too - check the network tab in your system control and hit "configure" - in your internet/lan connection, in the advanced tab some hardware can be configured - other companys (like 3com) normally only allow that by flashing the chip (which could bring your card to the nirvana)
