I finally got to watch this. The intro was nice, the stunts were really great. Lots of awesome grinds and some bumps. Even though I'm not a huge grind fan I loved most of these. Very well thought out and that effect near the middle, with the cam moving all over, I loved that. Only thing, I think ya maybe over did it a bit but a great effect. I thought ya did a nice job with the editing to the song ya used. Outro was also creative and set to some cool music. Loved it. 9/10

Just downloaded the HQ, really good video man.  Editing is just perfect, all the stunts were sweet and the music.   The shaking effect was really cool but you coulda synched it instead of using it straight throughout. And I wish you woulda used normal colors.  They werent bad though... And that downtown p2b and last bump were fuckin sick.  nice job dude

normally I'd yell at someone who slightly beat me to using a song like Freaking Out but since it's you...hah I don't really have much of a choice but to clap and watch it again on my tv over and over   anyways nice editing...nice use of Clint Mansell / Kronos Quartet if you play your cards right and use a couple other songs from him I could see this possibly branch into a themed video....just bringing it up because you used a couple clips from a previous vid

anyway rocked   9/10, To be honest for a moment, the title kind of hurt my eyes   and the coloring was cool but just felt like it should've changed sometime

For this review, I tought of going with something else. Im trying to sound a little more "proffessional", by not using any definated "parts" of the review, just writing it as an article. This will mean that I will not make anymore "stunt-by-stunt" reviews, except in some cases. So, without further notes:

Ostis Bigass Review on Daffy - "Kamikaze"
Edited by Daffy
Stunts by Daffy
Game: GTA Vice City

Edited with Vegas 7.0

HQ Codec/Size: Xvid & lame mp3/129mb

Author Awards: "Best Stunter of 2006 - Daffy", "Best Solo of 2006 VC/LC - Post Mortem", "Best Stuntvideo of 2006 VC/LC - Aetas", "Best Collab of 2006 VC/LC - Aetas", "Best Edited Video of 2006 - Aetas", "Best Soundtrack in a Video 2006 - Aetas"[/i]

Before we start, I'd like to write a little about the author of the video, the daff-man, Daffy.

In my point of view, Daffy is the definition of an artist. He is a guy who does what he thinks looks good and feels good, despite what others may think. If anyone dislikes his toughts or his actions, the artist changes into something like a bear-mom. Attacking not because he feels like it, but because it's what he has to do to protect his offspring, his work as a stunter. This may sound a bit abstract, which it propably is too. Lets just spell it out: "Daffy is his own type of guy, and accepts critizism at a certain level, but if it goes too far, boy did you pick the wrong guy to mess with". He is a guy that you just hate to love. Sometimes doing things that seem dirty, but you still just have to love the things he does.

So lets talk about what he's actually done here then. When he described the solo to me by himself, he said: "It's sort of like my solo 'Frantic'". I can't really describe it more accurately (If you haven't checked out "Frantic", be sure to get hold of it, as you will see what I mean by this). I remember Frantic as sort of a "leftovers" solo, with some bold effects that he just took out for a test drive. In "Kamikaze", Daffy had the same space with effects that he had with "Frantic", as there was no-one that he had to answer to. So, what happens? A new way of coloring Vice City and some interesting yet a little critizised way of using the pan/crop function + an awesome opening text effect. These are in direct comparison to the "X-Ray" effect used in Frantic.

But what about the stunts? Well the stunts can't really be compared to "Frantic", as they are no-where near the leftover folder. They definetly meet right up with the stunts of "Post Mortem" (the video Kamikaze technically 'continues' on, watch the intro). The video doesn't have the same "feeling" as "Post Mortem" tho, which I think is because Daffy didn't think of this as an actual big solo, that he wanted to leave a mark. "Post Mortem" won the "Best Solo of 2006 VC/LC" award, and he clearly stated that he wanted it to be one of the biggest too. This video isn't made with those toughts, and it is actually the minus I can give it. The video had an overall feeling of "just another solo", even if it was propably my favorite Daffy made solo. This feeling can propably be explained by the words that Daffy even said himself: "I just noticed I had enough stunts left, so I made a solo".

Well then, lets get into the fun parts. The intro was clearly tought of as a continuing of the intro in his solo before this, "Post Mortem" (which I mentioned earlier). It was a nice themed intro, it got me interested too. "What's gonna happen with the guy that shot him?", I tought. Nothing happened tho, maybe this will be the theme of another intro?

I actually described a little of the main part already, with the standout stunts and the definetly 'out'standing editing. I'd like to point out some of the higher quality stunts tho:

00:56 - The bump from the stunting league round one.
01:47 - Downtown packerbump, just plain awesome.
02:04 - The bump from the stunting league round two.
02:38 - Nothing much to comment, just a standout for me.
02:50 - It looks like it's something you just did while trying to land the ring, but it still looks great.
03:38 - From the video "Sky High", just a great grind in my books.
03:45 - Of course, the last stunt is allways the best, in this video too.

Overall the stunts were well over the average line, even the filler-ish stunts. Not that I was expecting anything else than dropping a lump while watching, as usual. The most amusing part of the main part was the "megaspin" tho. It totally fitted with the music and the lyrics, making it a nice touch.

Now, onto my favorite part, the editing of the main part. The beginning text effect was a great way of starting off the video. The colors are the biggest effect of the video tho, they are definetly out for a test drive. I'd like to analyze these colors and the usage of them a little. Daffy clearly used the possibility of doing something wild now that he didn't have to worry about others in the video. The colors are an indication of this, if anything is. The colors matched the videos music very well in my opinion, they maybe didn't make the game look any better, but they damn sure did something that I haven't actually seen in a while. Just by simply altering the colors of the video, Daffy created a whole new look. It's not something that you'd want to see used as actively as the gradient map, but it definetly made this video stand out in a different way.

It's a weird thing, how things like colors and music can change the feeling of a video completely. To me, it showed that you should think out of the box when you have the opportunity to do so. Why should we use the same effects over and over? By doing this, Daffy has ensured that his videos have a variety in editing, keeping it fresh and tasty every time. The editing wasn't all about the colors tho. The motion blur effects also made the video look good, and the flashes that Daffy has been known for for a long time now. But the critically tought of pan/cropping was the most un-usual thing I can find in the video. It definetly made it interesting, and lately you can see a new style of pan/cropping in Daffys videos (download "Geronimo"). In this case, I am twisted about the effect. You couldn't really see the stunt right, but without zooming like he did, the effect would have lost power. I like the effect tho, I have to admit. It was synched right, and you could still make out what he was doing.

Now the soundtrack of the video is very well chosen. The intro song creates a feeling of going on, and makes you wait for the main part. The outro song again is more of an intro song to me, which made it interesting. The main part song is together with the colors a great combination giving the whole video a distinct feeling, making it stand out from other videos. As if Daffys videos don't already do that.

Well, summing up what looks to be a little shorter review than usual, I would like to say thank you to Daffy for another produced video, and hope that he keeps producing. And, of course, the quotasion: "The newest solo by Daffy is a slideoff from the usual videos of today. By using new kind of colors and great music, combined with great stunts, this video creates a new type of an old feeling. A must see."[/i]
