So, my good computer won't boot up....
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:47:50 AM »
Well well... It worked perfectly yesterday. This morning, it won't. I hit the power button, it sounds like it's booting up, but if I try to turn the screen on, nothing. It just goes into standby mode... I checked and everything is plugged (AFAIK)... The power button on the tower lights up, just like if it worked...

I can't even really format it =/

I listened to the computer, and it makes those booting up noises for about 5 seconds, and then stops.

I had this problem, I called a dude out to come have a look at it and it turned out to be my motherboard had fucked. Too see if this is the problem you have just open your case and look at the motherboard and if those little cylinder things that stick up off it, if they have got like a rusty burned colour on the top, then its your motherboard and you need a new one or get that one fixed.

U sure your monitor isn't broken?
Check the 'num-lock' light on your keyboard, see if it lights up if you press it a few times.

I hope that this isn't it... I'll check in a short while.

Nope, but the fan still runs.

The numpad light doesn't light up

I have no fucking idea on how to open the case (I have no interest in looking inside, so I never really asked or tried. I'm so fucking unlucky/bad with hardware that I'd probably fuck it up) so, for now, I'm waiting. =/

Dude, this might help.

When I put a new hard drive in my computer I had the same problem, it turned out I had to press a button on my keyboard after installing new hardware for it to work or something stupid. Anyways all I did was press every button when it was turned on and it fixed it.

I know you havent installed new hardware but it's worth a shot.

I made sure everything was plugged in properly, and I tried your tip, it's not working... I have to open the case up, I guess.

So, I opened it up. It looks normal (no rusty bits).

Can I start it up safely, to see if the fans run smoothly?

Can I keep this thread in off-topic? I need as much attention as possible. Nobody looks in computer talk......
