IMO 3 is a bit of a small amount, 5 would be way more suitable. Purely because it'd take more to win, I mean, if one judge has voted than the other two must vote for the other to win, that's a bit of a.. well.. limited ability to comeback IMO. With 5 judges, it's like judge 1 votes, then the other person still has a greater chance of winning. In short, 5 judges adds to the excitement IMO.

As for running the tournament, I'd still be running it unless there is someone who is jumping up and down to run it - and honestly I think it'd be easier if me, Aries or Tac runned it since we got mod powers over this section already - meaning no waiting for Andy or MA to give someone control over the forum.

However, two persons to run this would of course be nice in one way but they could "cross-work" eachother. Like one person does this while the other person is doing the exact same thing with a different method. I.e., person 1 posts the match themes, while the other persons does them as well. Now you end up with two different challenges and a little fight over which challenge is valid and which is not. On the other hand, it'd be easier to get the stuff done when the other person is not able to post the next challenges quickly(ex. due to absence).

If people want me to run it, NP, I'm willing to but if someone else really wants to, be my guest. However I advice Tac to do it, considering his mod position here.

I want firefly as 4th judge. If he accepts, then we need only one.

You said something important there.

I think you still should be the one who leads it, but I also think you should have some assistance. I would like to help in any way I can. And as you say, I also got mod powers, which is an advantage. Aries too, so the three of us could probably make it work very well.

So if Aries decides to not compete, he can probably be a judge (can you?). And then maybe you could be a judge too Xtramus? If so, it would make it 5 judges in total.

Though I'm afraid for one thing. Will we get enough competitors to run this at all? I'm not so sure about that...

Just to even see if we are going to use judges, are there any persons who have an idea for the whole setup of this tournament? As in judges:yes or no, one on one matches or knockout rounds with everyone competing, or maybe poules. Stuff like that. I'm leaving on a four-day trip tomorrow so if there's anyone who has an idea for the tournament, I say we give them till Thursday eve and then we can decide what kind of setup we'll be using.

In short: Got ideas for the tournament lay-out? Post them right here right now.

Definately use judges, public voting leads to votes from biased/unexperienced people, which leads to arguments and whining. Get some non-biased, experienced judges. As for the outline, Tackleberry's 2nd idea sounds good to me. Everyone gets to compete, and the 2 with most points go to a big final match. Seems fair, as long as the challenges are different each time.

I won't be a judge in this, I wanna compete. We need competitors too. ;)

Here is my suggestion, a bit better explained:

GTAS Graphics Tournament III Lay-out Suggestion

Number of competitors: infinite
Number of judges: 3 or 5

There will be one “league”, in which all competitors will compete. Every Sunday a new challenge will be set, and the competitors will have from Monday to Friday to make an entry. At the weekends the judges will check the entries and rate them. Each judge give 5 points to the best entry, 4 points to the second best, and so on for the five best entries. The season will reach over, for example, five weeks (which means it will be five different challenges, but this has to be discussed.).

After the five weeks the three best will fight over the title in one big final (I set the amount to three, because this is the number of finalists in the previous tournaments.). The final will be like before, like three challenges during a specific period of time. In the final both judges and the community should be able to vote, and this is a suggestion of a voting system in the final:
The judges will rate the entries and give 3 points to best one, 2 to the second best and 1 point to the third best. The community can also affect though, but not as much as the judges. Every member will be able to give 1 point to one entry. The winner is of course the one with most points in the final, the points from the first five weeks will not have any effect in the final.

*This will lay-out be more fair than earlier, all competitors will be able to compete in all challenges, which will lead to that we will have the absolute best competitors in the final.

I'm awefully sorry but I don't think I'll be able to run this due to a lot of other stuff in real life(like school). However I think Aries would like to do it instead, or Tac would.

If you are going to have multiple judges and competitors from differrent time zones a calling notice should be put out to warn poeple that the next  round is going to be on a certain date
