Vegas - Clips go black?
« on: June 05, 2016, 07:34:07 AM »
Anyone know whats going on here? Using Vegas Pro 13 and it seems clips randomly just stop appearing in the project for no apparent reason. As you can see in the first screen one clip is on the timeline and previews fine:

But then the next is on the timeline and just goes black on the preview:

It usually fixes itself if I just close the project and reopen it but there's been times where I've done a full render and a clip has decided to disappear aka the end of this where there should've been two angles:

I also have another glitch (but no examples) where I'll try to fade two clips together (just dragging one into another on the timeline) and it'll glitch the fuck out for the duration of the fade, anyone know what thats about? Fucking Vegas.

Download Vegas 8 and you won't have such problems.

Yeah all Vegas versions after Vegas 8 have such bugs. I would love to get rid of those as well. I'm using 13 too and when I'm editing, every 5 mins = crash.

I have had that black preview problem A LOT years ago too. Unfortunately I don't remember if there was a fix for it.
My assumption is the system or software runs out of resources and throttles by ignoring footage.

Check your RAM & CPU resources by going here: Vegas / Options / Preferences... / Video tab
Then just give it a lot RAM capacity & as many CPU threads as your chip has.

In Vegas' Project Media tab from the default GUI, there's a thunder symbol at the top left which says "Remove All Unused Media From Project" when you mouse-hover over it.
Maybe hit that every now and then during the editing process to have a clean conscience about nothing unnecessary taking resources.

I'm sure the glitch fade you mentioned is something like this at 3:19

I remember ending up rendering videos in several lossless pieces to prevent those glitches. Afterwards I merged them back together in a new project file. <_<

^ aye I'd assume it's throttling except I'm only 4 clips into the project. That glitch you linked is exactly what happens to mine too, it's always remedied by opening and closing but fuck it's annoying. Will try those tips and probably an earlier version of Vegas too.

So I did a reinstall of Windows a few weeks back and installed Vegas 12 and still had these bugs. Anyway I did some searching and for me atleast it was a GPU bug since I'm on older hardware. Anyway go to Options > Preferences, click the video tab and go to the drop down box named "GPU accelleration of video processing" and turn it off. Restart Vegas and it should be fixed.

I don't know how much that'll affect you guys running some crazy i5 OVER9000K with a quad SLI GTX420691337 but on a Phenom X4 9650/9600GT I didn't notice any change and rendered a 3:34 minute 1080p (ok 1680x1050 upscaled to 1920x1080) mp4 in about an hour.
