After Effects 5 Question! NEED HELP!

GUYS,
I JUST GOT ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS CS5

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE WHITE CROSS LAYER??
It only appears whenever I drag a footage or layer

It isn't supposed to be there if I'm not mistaken

Balance did not say it correctly 

the white cross IS the layer, with it you can see its size etc. when you compose something etc.
you can't turn it off afaik.
but when you click under the layer in the composition it should turn off because the layer/footage is not selected anymore, it also disappears when you add an effect.

when you render the video it wont be there either
so just stay calm and think they are trolling you, in aae everything has a meaning

That's the annoying part, when I put an effect, it still stays there, it somewhat attaches or adds another WHITE CROSS to the effect..

EXAMPLE:
when I put an VIDEO COPILOT OPTICAL FLARE, everytime I drag the lens light source, white cross appears again. I've seen the video of other people on youtube, they didn't have the same problem

Well it disappears in my ae too, but I have cs6 and never used the  5th series from adobe.
Maybe just dl a trial of cs6 and look if it happens there also.

But as it does not happen to me just "update" it
