Anyone with Computer Spec knowledge?
« on: June 16, 2012, 03:04:40 AM »
I want to update my PC but I have no fucking idea what is what and what is good and all that stuff. I never was interested in computer specific things.

For 3 years I told everyone who asked that I have those specs but I don't even know if that makes sense:

ASUS M2N, PCI-Ex16, SATA-RAID, GLAN, AM2
PCI-E nVidia 9800 GTX+, 512MB, HDTV/2*DVI
2x 2GB DDR-2RAM, PC800 (Kingston) (only 3GB in use because of Windows XP 32Bit)
AMD Athlon64 X2 6000, AM2, DualCore, 3,0Ghz
Windows XP SP3

shit thats old. you got a price range for upgrades?

being honest I wouldn't bother upgrading since it's an AM2 socket (which was stopped in 06) and  DDR2.

You could salvage your HDD though since prices have skyrocketed.

You see, if you want a CPU upgrade then you'd need a new motherboard, which would mean you'd also need new ram. Pretty much everything minus the hard drive/disk drive/case. You could keep the graphics card although it is kinda old.
