Dear Esther
« on: February 19, 2012, 02:58:01 AM »
Dear Esther is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience. Dear Esther features a stunning, specially commissioned soundtrack from Jessica Curry.

Forget the normal rules of play; if nothing seems real here, it’s because it may just be all a delusion. What is the significance of the aerial – What happened on the motorway – is the island real or imagined – who is Esther and why has she chosen to summon you here? The answers are out there, on the lost beach and the tunnels under the island. Or then again, they may just not be, after all…

I love that Art Game.

He left for the island without his bottom? That's gonna be problematic.

Well it's not a new take on gaming. MYST was essentially the same concept - a story told in the context of exploration and discovery. It looks nice, and interactive novels definitely have that great aspect of interactivity that a written novel could never have (unless you're tucked away in a school attic reading The Neverending Story). As far as art goes, I don't see it being that much different to other games, with the exception that you're basically gonna be a witness to a story - kinda like a movie. Yeah, movies are art, but this game doesn't exactly elevate it to a whole new idea of art.

Looks interesting enough though. If it conveys the same atmosphere the trailer did, it'll be nice and spooky too.

considering it's the source engine, I'm impressed but as Kan said, it's not the first of its kind *though they never said it was*

Not going to be buying it because I know I wouldn't spend my time on it but it does look good
