If you could explain exactly how you tried to change out the player model, I may be able to help.

I extracted player9.dff, changed it name to player.dff and replaced original player.dff with it. I did the same with .txd at first, for a mistake. When game stoped working i dragged and pasted original gta3.img into models folder, replacing the other file. I think that's when i made mistake. I used to delete gta3.img first and then copy and paste original file. I have win7 and i think that this might be the reason too (i had some problems with vc already). And i also could possibly click join the files what coused fucking up both files - this makes the most sense to me.

When replacing a txd or diff file within the gta3.img with image tool you must "delete" the original file than add the new one. Choosing "replace"  in image tool always seems to cause problems.

Also, if you rename files before adding, TXD Workshop has a dff check feature in it's options. It's a good idea to check that out. Sometimes there is a name mismatch which will cause problems in the game.
