A few riffs
« on: July 14, 2010, 06:51:21 PM »
Howdy, I just wanted to show you some riffs I've made.
A few years ago I bought myself a Line 6 Guitarport and the program Riffworks which I had on my last computer, plus the activation code for recording in the program -around 60$ which is way too expensive- and I've been using it for coming up with songs and recording demo-demos since I'm just an amateur guitarplayer without a band.
Thing is, the computer broke a few months ago and there's something wrong with using the GuitarPort on the new one, and the activation code were bound to the computer so from now on I'm unable to use it, which is piss!

Well, I tried some short recordings including drums, bass and effects recorded with my keyboard, which is great to be able to do since the in-program drums sucks hard. I just connected the headphone output from keyboard to the GuitarPort with the guitar wire.

I have about 20-30 riffs and I only recorded a few of them, and a few of those with drums etc.
Not the best riffs I've made but some of them sounds cool though the "production" is pretty bad, just some volume adjustions and WMM to edit them together..
Lots of missed notes and not in tact but it's only test recordings.

Riff 1; "Coq" (Mainly thrash metal)

http://www.multiupload.com/Y8Z51R48JE

One of the first riffs I ever came up with, it's as you can hear VERY Metallica-inspired and it was like the only thing I was listening to at that point so..
Starts with an "classical" part, and over to a more rocking one, a pretty much improvised part and over to a way too fast riff I realized, since it wouldn't fit in to the rest (which I at that time had not come up with yet). The lyrics are written and the main guitar but that's about it. Wish I could record it.

Riff 2; Just some riffs put together (Heavy Metal)

http://www.multiupload.com/GULROMWLFQ

Starts with a quite fast riff, and the rest was just something I came up with during recording and it sounded shit but it kinda builds up to another riff, which I will not use for anything since it's not good at all. It all turns into a minute of shit jamming but it's pretty fun listening because I can't play solos for damn sure, just tried to hit any note..hehe.

Riff 3; "Pantera" (A touch of Groove Metal)

http://www.multiupload.com/5HE2M7QOV2

Well, I wrote these riffs when I was mostly into Pantera. Starts with an chill hammer-on/pull-off bit and goes (bad) into a heavier riff, mainly inspired by Pantera. I fucked up the drums but didn't remake them so it destroyed some parts.

Riff 4; "Rock 'n Roll" (Rock 'n Roll!!)

http://www.multiupload.com/TM7ZPK7K99

So I decided to push myself to write a more AC/DC-alike riff but the way I wanted to play it.
The production were a bit better but still bad, starts with a typical power chord-intro and over to a more with swing and rythm. And of course, one minute of freaking jamming..
I've been working more with this song like putting some lyrics but I'm pretty bad writing Rock 'n Roll texts.

Riff 5; Unnamed (Heavy Metal)

http://www.multiupload.com/4UQYMPTI6Y

Well this is a bit I really enjoy playing, starts with three variations of a riff and over to another, faster one. Continues with some other testriffs and to some jamming again..
Pretty much Metallica in it.

Riff 6; An intro to a song named "Jolly Good Fellow".

http://www.multiupload.com/JIZIC5CXZ8

This is only an intro I tried to create, which will continue with some snare-drumming and matching riffs.
I've been playing this clean for a while but it sounded just as cool with distortion.
And oops, I forgot to rend it so it's about 25 mb.

Well that was pretty much what I found on my harddrive, it's such a bitch that I'm not able to record anything more.
I would be glad to show some new material, been very into Machine Head, Throwdown and classical music and I feel more inspired now by anything than I've ever been before.

Oh, here's some FL Studio stuff I showed a few years ago and I had almost forgotten them because it's such a mess on my harddrive. Was awesomely glad when I found them again.

1; "Santa And Satan"

http://www.multiupload.com/JMGZ1K9LC8

The name speaks for itself; starts with some Christmas-variations and into a darker part.
I'm very proud of it, one of my best works!

2; "Jysk Bäddlager"

http://www.multiupload.com/VUOX993GJ8

3; "China Hats"

http://www.multiupload.com/Q6I4HR3QO9

I don't know if it's a typical chinese of japanese melody but I tried to do something funny.

A swedish bedcompany commercial song that I did my own version of.
I've used it in a VC Stunting League contribution video against Godfather in 2008.

Cheers all.
