Hello, fellow editors. So, we are again at an end of one more editing tournament. This one was definitely far more turbulent than the previous two, and I'd like to write a few words here.
Throughout this league we have encountered lots of problems, as I expected when I took on the organization job. Judges getting lazy sometimes, people refusing to submit, people just not showing up, people getting pissed off about some votes or the way they're presented. It's the same with every league organized anywhere. I'm happy to say that we've overcome most of those problems, though, and that this year was definitely an up-step to the previous year.
I've wanted to bring in some innovation compared to the two predecessors. So I've introduced the group system, which was a very good way of not knocking out real contenders immediately and making things a little bit more interesting. Also, I did my best (with major help from Franco, great thanks man) to bring in some fresh challenges which will make the editors try out some things they haven't before. I know there were a few unhappy faces about this challenge layout (as it usually is in tournaments like this), but I think that, overall, our work has payed off and the league was a lot more interesting than the previous one to the watchers as well as the competitors and judges.
The only thing I'm sad about is the no-show amount - while it's significantly smaller than last year, it's still large, and we haven't had a single round without at least one contender not showing up - even in the finals. Hopefully, people will see what kind of problems are caused by no-shows, and not sign up next year unless they are confident that they'll make their deadlines in time.
This goes out to next year's tournament organizer (whoever that might be, I'm sure it won't be me): Good luck, stay calm, try to innovate but don't take it too far.
This goes out to all the awesome editors who haven't managed to work their way to winning one of the podium places: Don't feel down. This is, after all, a tournament, and how you'll perform in it depends not only on how good you are in general, a lot of other factors (luck, challenge) can influence the outcome.
Thank you:
- All the judges;
- Franco, for your major help with challenges and organization;
- Venomous, for your major GFX help;
- All the stunters who sent stunts for this, you really helped this go as smooth as it did;
- All the contestants, for without your efforts this wouldn't be as interesting as it was.
And, of course, can't close a tournament without rewarding the best players.
