[VC] How to use cut scenes for intros
« on: January 02, 2006, 12:16:01 PM »
Ok, after being asked about Dysfunctional so many times I decided to make this post.

Tools you will need:
VC Mission chooser (to make it easier to get to the particular cut-scene)
Fraps
IMG Tool
VC TXD Editor
CamHack (optional)
Some kind of graphics program like MSpaint, PSP, Photoshop etc.

This tutorial is for changing the Tommy model only. If you wish to change out say, Diaz with the Tommy model than you'll need to extract and rename the DFF for Diaz or whomever to CSplay.DFF.

Before you do anything you must make sure that both the GTA3.img and GTA3.dir are not "read only". To check this goto the files......C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models. Right click on them and choose "properties" at the bottom you will see boxes you can check or uncheck. Uncheck "read only" and click apply.

First thing you need to do is use IMG Tool to open the gta3.img.
You'll find it in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models. Now go down through the list till you come to CScolo.dff. and CScolo.txd.This is the first model used in cut-scenes. All models with the CSxxxx.xxx are used in them.

Now pick the model you wish to change out. Right click on ithe TXD and choose Extract. It will now ask WHERE you want to extract this file to. Make a folder or choose one.

Open IMG Tool, this allows you to view the images within the TXD files.
Go up to "open TXD" and find your CSxxxx.txd. You can now see the image contained within the file. Go up to "extract" and save as a .bmp or .tga. I've had better luck extracting as a .tga but try both.

Open up your image editor, MSpaint, PSP, Photoshop, whatever. Open both images, your skin and the file you just extracted for the model you wish to change. Notice there are some differances. CS models have eyes and teeth. That's because they have animation, talking and blinking. Here's the tricky part. You must cut and paste your clothing over the cut-scene models clothing and if your Tommy's face is altered, then this to must be placed over the cut-scene models face. The only catch is it has to be "exactly" the same size. Mostly this is trial and error here folks.

Once you have cut and pasted all the parts of your skin onto the
cut-scene model save it as both a .bmp and .tga file, just incase.
Now open the TXD Editor. Find the original cut-scene model and open it. Go up to "open TXD' and open the original. Go up to "import" and find the new skin for your palyer you just made. Add it and now you should see your image instead of the cut-scene one. If the image is messed up, import the .tga file instead.

Let's open the IMG Tool. Open the gta3.img file. Find the CS model you just replaced, choose "delete" not "replace" and delete the CS model you just made changes to. Now go up to "add" and choose the CS model you just altered. Close IMG tool and your new model should be in VC.

You can use the Mission chooser or howerver you like to get to the cut-scene in game. If the model doesn't look right than ya need to try copying and pasting your skins clothing to the original CS model again.

Hope this answers most questions on how to do this.

I take you mean TXD Editor or ViceTXD?

It did not answer all the questions. How can you make them not blink and talk? If I want to do it like on Dysfuntional, they didn't talk. I don't want anyone to blink and open their mouth. How can I do this?
