Automagically Saving Reps
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:20:59 PM »
Something I've always found annoying is the way GTA writes over reps. Given how small the files are and how much HDD space we all have it just doesn't make sense.

So, does anyone have any way of backing up the replay.rep file every time it changes? Ideally what I would love would be a script that copies new reps to an archive and gives them a unique time stamp. If not, would anyone care to suggest a good way of making one so I can have a crack. I think I would be able to do it if GTA ran on mac osx but I really have no idea where to start on windows.

Fox has made something like this in 2006 for SA. You could switch between .rep files in the SA Userfiles folder ingame, and if you save a .rep it would save it as a timestamp...was pretty cool. Sadly I don't have that anymore and I have asked several people including Fox himself and he doesn't have it either.

I guess we're screwed. :(

Would be nice to have a chat bar appear like the sa-mp one and you can rename it while in-game.
But maybe I'm asking too much ?

In my experience it even encourages replays to crash. That thing is horrible...

KM's right, I remember using it when I started stunting in SA and managing replays with it got worse than without it.

lost lots of replays by accident. So this would help a lot, always thought on it. And cookies idea sounds cool, but we are getting too lazy  with all this mods :D
