filesize issues...
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:17:32 AM »
Ok I've had a bunch of tips but I'm honestly looking for the easy way out... I've finished my latest vid and a huge long break from making any and I've put more time and effort into the post stunt production than ever before, an entire day devoted to recording stunts, slowly edited it over a month and made the intro as well as several other parts in max slowly over a week or 2-3.

My problem is that my 1st HD render from Vegas turned out to be 1.6gb's... I just changed the custom settings to the right resolution, 1024x768 and put the video on best quality rather than good.

After that i re rendered it with the default settings but with 1024x768 and it's still 480mb's.

Apart from the fact that it's going to take me a month to upload this using my terribly slow uploads, not many places will allow me to upload a file so big so i need help to reduce the size or compress it without loosing too much quality.

Also I've tried uploading the vid twice now to megaupload over night but my PC goes into sleep mode 20 mins before it finishes or something, HELP PLOX!!!..

--------------------

Slightly different problem, for my MQ - LQ versions i was going to open my HD in WMM and render it to be the desired filesizes which normally works great and worked fine this time except after 3 attempts at rendering my MQ, WMM had frozen the video for a second or 2 in 2 different parts where i had a black screen in the video, anyone know what's causing this?

I also use WMM to render the smaller versions because microsoft hastheir video compression down perfectly so you can render videos that for the quality should be much larger filesizes.

And how long is the vid? Just use Daffy's WMV Extreme Quality Tutorial or .mkv tutorial if you're more experienced.

Oh and pleaasseee call the video "ADMINSEX EPISODE ONE"

easy way out: render wmv in vegas, sit back, and drink a lovely beverage.

And remove that sleep mode from Right click on desktop --> properties --> desktop --> power --> sleep mode --> never
Also you can use xdiv or divx (Those are codecs :) )

It's between 4-6 mins long and I honestly don't know what the bit rate is  I'm gona have a snoop around vegas and the files to try n find out but if you can post a quick way for me to check then I'll reply :P

Also if anyone wants to quickly explain how different codecs affect different video types and blah blah blah, it might help me understand my problem, I've spent time trying to understand other filetypes but as I've never really been too much into editing or quality of videos, I've never put the time into video files :/

Also thanks for that pitbull  I've been thinking i need to turn it off but haven't bothered looking into the settings to do so

PS: KM, I already have a name but NEXT TIME FO SHO!

EDIT:

Bit rate is standard 500, i didn't change any settings other than actual pixel width and height so it should be 500, thoughts?

EDIT2: was watching it over in WMP and noticed at the bottom the bit rate came up, it's got "11005 k variable bit rate"

Variable bit rate usually renders long and has bigass sizes, especially if its 'Quality' bar is high. I personally tried VBR only once or twice, and I never seen any major improvement from the 6M constant bitrate wmv. The sizes with CBR 6M wmv shouldn't exceed 50MB per minute, atleast they don't for me, and the render times are OK, unless you placed some overwhored color correction.

example of a video i rendered with 6m cbr:

Well i use the same as petar, 1280 x 720, Quality CBR and bitrate; Lan/internet: 6M
and then smth like 90 (sharpest) or even 70 is okay.
I rendered this like that and it's only like 40 mb :P
