Serious help needed
« on: September 08, 2008, 02:19:24 AM »
The topic I made at CCleaner forums.

Quote from: BlooAcid
Hello all, my name is BlooAcid and I need some assistance. Recently I used CCleaner fix registry issues and after that I've been having some trouble with windows. The next day I switch on my PC and windows gets stuck in the windows welcome startup screen(not when it's that blue color, when it's about to load, totally black with only mouse). I can still move the mouse but it's just black screen stuck but moving the mouse ain't much of a help lol. Though before fixing the issues I made a backup and now I have no idea how to get it back to it's place. I know, I should have read and learned how to do this all but I've been using CCleaner for a long time and I've done this fix registry issues for about 2-3 times and nothing really happened. The reason I think it's me using CCleaner carelessly is because the last thing I did before switching the PC off was the fix registry issues thing and the next day PC messes up. I wanted to buy a windows XP professional SP2 CD to boot from it and fix this with it's built in recovery console but as usual in a troublesome time it's hard as hell to find the solution lol. I would really appreciate if you guys help me out with this mess. By the way by any chances I can't reinstall because there are tons of extremely important data here. I'm really inexperienced with PC stuff so if you guys don't mind if it's something mumbo jumbo please explain it in a way I'd understand.
Thanks a lot people.
Cheers!

Well the first question I would ask is when you did a Registry clean did you save the backup file when you were asked? If you didn't as 80% of users don't then you need to startup in Safe Mode just tap the F8 key every second as the computer is starting up and select Safe Mode from the menu.

Once started do a system restore.

Always save the backup from the registry clean.

Yes I did save a backup and I did try system restore but in the last confirmation screen when I press next nothing happens, I mean I can keep clicking and clicking but it goes nowhere.
Once again yea, I did save a backup and my question is how the heck do I get it back to it's place.
Thanks.
Edit: I found out a way to restore it, just double click the backup and press yes right? Anyway even after that nothing happened, still gets stuck in the windows welcome startup screen. I can't reinstall windows because there are extremely important data and I can't backup them all.
You guys have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

So that's the problem yea, I would really appreciate if ya guys help me out with this problem.
By the way I'm BlooAcid lol.
Also I forgot to mention, I installed hitman pro before that (because of some virus stuff) and in the middle of scanning it all got stuck and had to reboot and after that I did that CCleaner thing. The next day I switch on PC first it comes normally everything then it got stuck, after rebooting this problem occurred. And yes I can go safemode, I am using it right now lol.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I remember the last time something happened to this PC the computer fixing dude put all the important data on the half of my HD or something and then formatted then reinstalled windows and after that recovered the backed up stuff. If anybody could tell me how to do that I'd be happy, seems like there's no other way to fix this.

Sounds like what I had, it was a problem with my harddrive. I switched out another harddrive and installed XP on that then just copyed over data. So you could try buying a cheap internal harddrive and going from there.

Oh if it's that problem then I won't be able to photoshop or stunt or do anything for a while because of financial issues, meh.
Thanks for the tips people.

I'm guessing you have another computer, download a linux distribution and burn it. Boot up onto that and see what you can recover.

Virus stuff? Is it possible maybe thats what's up with your PC problems? I've used Ccleaner a long time and the reg fix has never brought up entries that where all that important on my PC. I delete what it finds and have never had any problems. Same goes for a more advanced reg fix program I have.

Maybe try another virus scan, maybe if you can do one while the PC boots? Some programs like Avast have that option. Also run other spyware programs if you have them.

If you can try another system restore, pick a point that is way back if possible. Also, many system restore points can take a long ass time to run completely before the PC will boot up again.

It's a good thing I got Avast recently lol but sadly I don't have any spyware programs. I'll do what ya said, thanks for that suggestion.

Lots of wub Wheely.
Edit: Yea it is a virus but a virus that can't be deleted or fixed by Avast. The bitch is called VBS: Malware-gen.
Here's an article about it.

That's why it's messing up the websites and stuff. I get it now, thanks for the suggestion Neo and others. Now I know what the problem is.
