A friend of mine took me to his house to show me the software he uses for music recording/editing. I really want to ge it, but I can't remember what it was called.

I think it started with a "C" but I'm not sure. Anybody think they know?

Or if you know of a better one... ?

A good one for music editing i think is Audacity, its free, just google it.

I think that you're talking about "Cubase".

Cubase 4 is the newest version, but it's really fucking expensive (as all good software is).
I have Cubase SX3 mysef, because that is easily available on the internet (yes, torrents).

I have to say that Cubase is one of the best programs for editing/sequencing music.

You might also want to download some free/non-free VST:s and VSTi:s for Cubase if you decide to try it.

Fruity loops - A good program for beginners, its fairly easy to understand even if you have never used a daw in your life. Dont let its simplicity fool you, some of the best dance music producers in the world churn out dancefloor bangers from this program.

Reason 3.0 - Again a fairly simple program, a lot more aesthetically pleasing than floops, this is something I would recommend for you. This is the program I learnt how to produce on four years ago.

Cubase sx4/sx4 - A really good program, probably not worth getting till youve learnt how to produce with either floops or reason. Delivers crisp audio quality with nigh on perfect clarity, shit hot for proffesional mixdowns.

Nuendo 3 - Another of my favourite programs, made by the same people as Cubase [steinberg]. It basically looks almost identical to Cubase, but it has few different features and is the better of the two imo. Check this, Cubase is 600 quid, Nuendo is 1300. The price difference speaks for itself.

My setup - Im running Cubase, Nuendo, Reason, Logic, Live and floops. A m-audio audiophile 192 soundcard, M-audio bx8a active monitors and a amd athlon pc. Ideally you need a core 2 duo with 2 gig of ram to get the most out of your average daw. Devote one comp just to music aswell, dont have the net and games on it. [trust me].

as far as everything des said, that will probably have to wait until i move out and have the room (and money) for two really good computers
