svchost.exe
« on: January 22, 2007, 05:31:47 AM »
Can anyone with knowledge of svchost.exe tell me why is that svchost.exe is taking up a lot of CPU Usage and why is it running so many processes? I mean, I know it's like really important and my computer probably won't work without it but is there a way to cut down the CPU Usage? I am only running 32 processes, more than half of them are svchost.exes. My computer isn't moving like a slug but still, questions need to be answered.
Please, no wise-ass comments if you don't know what I am asking here!

I have 7 of them running

Maybe your windows is checking for updates or doing something.
You could try to restart your com and see how many of them there are running when it's just started ?

Your all wrong. Svchost.exe is the program that processes the .DLL's. And RPC's. If I remember correctly, try deleting one of them or something and your windows will tell you that it's shutting down in 1 min, you cant stop it. Quite the amusing trick to play on your friends.

Just run some scans because some virus's mask themselves as svchost.exe and take up lots of system resources.
