Replay freeze
« on: November 01, 2014, 01:05:32 PM »
I don't know if anyone can help me here...

So I have been working on a stunt for about 30+ hours and finally landed it. I hit f2 to save it and it made my game freeze. So I got lucky and landed it a second time in the same day (pissed off and overly determined) and I hit f2 in the same spot as before, it was fine. Then I hit f3 to view the stunt, and it froze.

After the first time it froze, I hit f2 a few times before the 2nd land just to make sure it wouldn't freeze and it never did. It played back my misc. rep and no problem, not until I landed it again. Could there be an issue with that particular spot where I'm pressing to save/play back?

I have never had this problem in 9 years of saving/playing back reps. I am so pissed off because I want that spot .rep. Should I just re-install my game/skins and try that? Any help would be appreciated.

i had one of those spots like 2 weeks ago.. i landed it 2 times and the replay froze 2 times.. then i just went to the same position and saved my replay like 5 times and it always froze when i wanted to view it.. there are just some spots in the game which are totally crappy when it comes to save reps.. i guess you cant really do anything against it, you just gotta have luck

I could only come up with that explanation too, that the rep feature is just buggy in certain locations. Weird. :hmm:

Although I did simulate the stunt a few times without actually landing it, and saved/replayed in the same spot where I would land, and didn't have a problem.

It's a grind, and twice when I came off of the grind after finally landing on the rail, it froze on f2, then froze on f3. When I simulated the stunt, I just drove next to the rail.

Replays can be corrupted and there's no way to fix them. But there's a little workaround to reduce the risk:

1. Once you've landed your stunt, don't move CJ anymore and wait a few seconds.
2. Then hit F2 to save a replay, minimize the game and rename the replay.rep file you just saved.
3. Go back into the game and hit F2 again, so you're having 2 replays now. Rename that file too.

That way you can save multiple replays of the stunt you've just nailed. The chances of all of them being corrupted is super low and I've never experienced more than 1 fucked replay. I've never experienced issues with certain spots over the years at all either.

Just never hit F3 while creating several replay files, otherwise the game's replay cache will be cleared and your stunt is possibly gone.

Yea I never had this problem before either, thanks Rusch.

edit: So you're saying to NOT hit f3 to view ( I usually have fraps on and hit f3 right after to record a clip) just save/rename, then go back into the game and save a random, Or are you saying to land it twice,save/rename...?

Nevermind that^ I get what you're saying..to save the same .rep twice. Good idea, as long as it doesn't freeze when I press f2.

Do what Rusch said, but there's something even more obvious that people have failed to mention. If you're saving replays to a secondary hard drive, make sure the hard drive isn't spinning down after a period of inactivity. Windows sets this automatically for most hard drives, and if you save a replay while your hard drive is inactive, it will take a few seconds to save it. This results in corruption.

You can turn off hard drive spin down in Windows by doing the following:

  • Open control panel.
  • Open power options.
  • Click "Change plan settings".
  • Click "Change advanced power settings".
  • Open the Hard Disk menu and change the "Turn off hard disk after" setting to "Never".

Teleporting back after pressing F2 when I've landed a stunt before pressing F3 to watch it has been a surefire method for me to never get 1 corrupt rep ever.

This is good to know also.. I still use crazy trainer 151 to teleport though, not sure if it would make a difference.
